“What are you talking about?” Brandon screamed into the phone. Jannes was on the other line, and being entirely unhelpful.
“I warned you that the side effects of this treatment were unpredictable.”
“It turned me gay!”
“Well…” Jannes seemed to be struggling to find a way to respond to that complaint. “Are you writing down everything that’s happening to you like I instructed?”
“No.”
“Then start. That should help with figuring out where things went wrong later,” Jannes said. Brandon scowled.
“That’s not going to help me now!” he shouted. To his horror, his voice cracked midway through the sentence. The embarrassing moment caused him to lose his head of steam. “Just…you figure out a way to at least stop it before things get worse,” he said in a more subdued tone.
“I’ll come over to your address with the pause serum once it’s ready. What’s your address?” Brandon gave Jannes the address. He hung up.
Then, terrified by what the voice crack meant, Brandon raced for the bathroom to check his reflection. On his way, he tripped on the hem of his pants, which had suddenly become too large.
“No, no, no,” Brandon muttered to himself, pulling his pants up. He finished making his way to the bathroom. His jaw dropped. The person in the mirror was a teenage boy, no more than seventeen. “No!” Brandon took a deep breath. Jannes was going to fix it. He just had to wait.
Brandon went through the house to locate some clothes that might fit. He managed to find a T-shirt that had previously been too small for him and a pair of shorts that shrunk in the wash. Now dressed, he resolved himself to wait for Jannes to arrive.
