The employee pulled out a huge pair of soccer cleats from the big shoe box.
“Here you go, Jacob. This is perfect for a young man like you. Soccer is a great sport for a beginner and for someone who doesn’t like contact sports that much. All you need to do is run after a white ball and kick it into the goal. Here, try on these great, new cleats!” the man said.
Jacob looked at the big, slick, black shoes with hard, plastic spikes under the sole. He put them on, but they were way too big for his smaller, size 7 feet. But he didn’t want to come out of the shoe store empty-handed, so he just accepted the shoes.
“Okay, I’ll buy them!” he sighed, handing the salesman his father’s credit card.
“Great! They will fit you well. You will grow into these shoes in a few days, so don’t worry. Soon, you’ll be a big, tall and strong soccer star!” the salesman smiled as he scanned in the bar code from the box.
The man rang up the sale at the cash register, giving Jacob the cleats in the box and handing him a receipt.
Jake rode home with his dad and ate lunch with his parents. Afterwards, he tried on his big, brand new soccer cleats when he was in his bedroom with his door closed behind him. He walked around the room with his cleats on, although they still felt too big. The cleats still looked very cool on his feet. Then, he suddenly felt very tired, and he crawled in his bed and he took a long nap.
When he woke up a few hours later, he noticed that something had changed.
