Mary was panicked, but she couldn't do much. She was a canary, so maybe she could fly out of here. Mary flapped her wings experimentally, nothing happened. She tried again, and was able to lift off just a little. Again, Mary flapped for all she was worth, her eyes closed with the effort. She felt herself going up and up. But something was wrong, her wings weren't moving! Mary opened her eyes and saw that she was in the hand, or paw as it was quickly becoming, of Jess.
Jess was now almost finished transforming into a half coyote girl. She grinned down at Mary, showing her her newly grown canine teeth.
"I thought this would be an appropriate form to take. I know you never listened well in history class. So let me fill you in. I'm a coyote, otherwise known as the trickster, from Native American folklore. You fell for my trick, so now I have my revenge!" Jess was fully furred in soft brown, her tail swished back and forth. Jess shoved Mary into the cage and shut the door.
"Now, I haven't quite decided on how to exact my revenge, yet. But as a canary, you'll have to do for now..." Jess grinned again, showing her teeth.
