Belle wandered through the airport listlessly for a little while, before spotting a payphone. She quickly took off her backpack and dug around in it. To her delight, she found a coin purse, from which she took out a few quarters. She walked to the payphone. With some difficulty, she managed to get the phone off the hook, put the quarters in. Now, she just had to decide who she was going to call.
After a moment, Belle dialed the number of her sister, Susan, whose son was now bigger than Belle. The phone rang. Just as Belle was about to give up hope of her sister picking up the phone, she answered.
“Hello?”
“Susan! It’s me, Belle!” Belle said quickly.
“Jake’s friend Belle?” Susan asked. Belle cursed herself for not using her actual name. John just didn’t feel right at the moment. She also cursed herself for apparently having the name of one of the friends of Jake, Susan’s son. That might make things more difficult.
“No, it’s actually John,” Belle said. “Your brother.”
“Sweetie, I don’t like pranks.”
“It’s not a prank! It’s…” Belle hurriedly explained what all had happened to her. Once she finished, she waited breathlessly for Susan to respond.
