When the smoke cleared, what appeared was.... A dragon. A relatively young one since it was small enough to be entirely contained in the magic circle, although barely. Of course, what count as young for a dragon seem older than dirt to a human, especially one as young as Charlotte.
Before Hildia could do anything, the dragon bowed to Charlotte and said, in a surprisingly feminine voice "I'm happy to see you mistress, even if you lost your memories this time around." The dragoness then turned to Hildia and said "Thank you for adopting my mistress, giving her back her birthright, regardless of her being born as a human this time and, worst, a male one."
Hildia wanted to deny what the dragoness was implying, but her magical senses was seeing too clearly the mark left by the already existing contract between the fire-breathing familiar and Charlotte. But it mean the contract was done on the soul level, something only an extraordinary powerful witch could do, and not to a dragon, not unless said dragon wanted to be a familiar. But why would a dragon want to be one? Who could Charlotte have been in her past life?
The older witch knew she probably couldn't claim Charlotte as her heir anymore, but it didn't change what needed to be done. "Charlotte? You should gently touch your familiar. And who know, maybe renewing the contract might bring back memories from your past life."
Hesitantly, the young witch delicately put her hand of the dragoness' snout and was assaulted by memories of not one, but several past lives as witches. All of them remembering the previous ones, all of them having the same young dragoness as a familiar. Tears of joy streaming along her face, Charlotte threw herself at her old friend saying "Faith! Oh Faith, I'm so happy to see you!" Then, taking a few step back she added "You grew a lot since the last time I saw you."
"That's what happen when someone jealous curse you to reincarnate as a simple human times and again, mistress" sadly answered Faith, but Charlotte wasn't listening anymore, hugging Hildia instead. "Thanks mama, for breaking the curse! Please continue to teach me modern magic, and if you want, in exchange I'll teach you old magic from my past lives!"
