Planebreak: Myrmidon Server

added by Dislogic 2 years ago BM O

Words were spoken, but there were more than words that guided this. The genie's sacrifice was no mere death, but to be subsumed into divine genesis: to drive their spark of great magic beyond ex nihilo conjuration to more, to drag a dream to reality. A lamp turned to a world, and cast out of this one. The details of life wrapped up, the details of an MMORPG subtly altered to excuse this strange new world...

"Eyy, Keldar-to-be!" someone who looked exactly like you said, popping into existence. "It's me, the new and soon-improved Mike Johnson."

Just as planned to handle your remaining affairs, sort out some special updates to Planebreak, and from time to time while they became something greater both in and out of world, play you. Keldar was the name of your human alchemist main, the person you'd be transforming into. You got a good look at what was you and soon would not be, his short brown hair, squarish glasses covering generic brown eyes, a bit of a belly covered by a black t-shirt, straightish dustings of body hair, boring khakis, dull sneakers...a classic middle-intensity nerd.

"Seeya on the flipside." your doppelganger said.

Then, you finally disappeared from that park and emerged in a space of grid lines and data, apparently the newborn world created by the genie's transubstantiation. A subtle sense of her presence lingered, as this realm was still 'her' after a fashion, and if nothing else her transformed power and what trappings would not pass into rebirth. Meshes of various sets appeared in distant bubbles, motifs preparing to be written, and the man with your original face and name appeared (this time with a new t-shirt decal indicating he was the Planebreak Djinn Manager).

"New server, new world, new justifications!" he said cheerily. "Well, let's get to modding that body. I've got a lot more power in here and it's ready to fulfill your wish."

The new Mike gripped your shoulders, filling you with information and magic as much as he was just kind of grabbing you. As Keldar was a self-insert, your changes were mostly a matter of clearing up some blemishes and adding the relevant internal differences of a magician (though you did feel a soft bulge in your genitals, definitely glad to have that over your genie counterpart). Your eyes seemed to see everything more clearly, your gut was slightly less fat and slightly more muscle, and the world that underlied everything...

Principles surrounded you intuitively. Cards, process-spells, law-formulae, crafting systems...it was finally you being able to manage all this information at once and move with your own hands, not a bunch of macros and subskills (though you still had 'em, for automation purposes). A character backstory you'd sketched half-jokingly and then padded out with common adventures grew thicker, lucid, a lifetime of memories paralleling your first.

"Alrighty, there's your magical power deal!" genie Mike said to you as he dramatically fingersnapped, lightweight blue-grey alchemist's robes popping onto your body. As directed by some unseen will, your left hand moved beneath some folds to blatantly feel yourself up underneath. "Yup, everything seems to be in order down there."

You grinned at the feeling of being controlled yet in synergy with your own will, a sense of automatic puppeting to handle your own actions.

"Next up, setting." Mike said. "The quick lore justification is that a new planar conjugation occurs. Yadda yadda, I won't spoil everything and let you learn it as you go. Now custom servers are not only a thing, they're things you can mod and hack and do whatever to...there's some MMO thoroughness things we can get through now that we're not on the main corporate, y'know Keldar?"

The boner tenting your shorts answers him for the most part. "Definitely." you say, letting some faint mental connection from character to player express the rest.

Another fingersnap later, you were on your old flying island alchemist's cottage, gardens intact. The cloudy view below parted to reveal not a vague amorphous skydome, but a bunch of familiar and unfamiliar landscapes jumbled together as a result of Mike drawing the planar map together. A quick menu-check and short location move confirms your warp-home waypoint is still active and functional, so no worries about getting lost. You will a series of mystical symbols to float around you and gently ascend into the air, before floating down to the new land.

"This is the new planar cluster of Myrmidon." Mike explained as a voice in your head. "Most of it's a bunch of low level stock assets right now plus a few strong things that my last life dreamt up for coolness value. You're probably still the strongest guy here, and are gonna stay that way unless you don't bother doing anything for a few years straight. Since I have total admin, genie powers, and a lot of build tools to cheaty control stuff, I can do pretty much anything here. You could be king of the biggest city, bottom bitch to trash goblins, transmogrified into a living dildo, the local god of design, pillage and plunder, split into a whole adventuring party, or anywhere in between whenever you want. I could even get real-world players to join us and mind-alter them to not think anything's weirder than you want 'em to if you wanna try a raid with people who phase off instead of local adventurers who're always here."

You float down near a walled town with a large castle, noting some bustle in the streets and busy markets. Oh, there is so much you could do right now.
