“And the theme for this Saturdays event will be.” Said the teacher over the load speakers as the sound of paper ripping open filled the air as everyone looked at speaker. “Get ready to contrast, red and blue, Black and white, yellow and green, man and women, short and tall…the theme for this year’s marriage auction is Contrast, partners and groups are allowed as well as solos as long as you are contrasting.”
“What?” inquired Jenn confused
“Jenn do you want to partner up? I know you are a higher rank then me but I am in the schools top 10 if not the collective 5 schools.” Said Alex as Jenn remembered, Alex said Jenn was in the top 10 ranking of all five schools which meant that at worse Alex had to be within the top 50 of all girls within the five schools. She didn’t know which schools until she looked up and saw on the gym wall her school mascot standing before a map of her area, there was a star by her school but then she noticed 4 additional stars. She knew that there where 5 teams in their sports league counting her school which meant that the other for schools where the same schools she had played against before.
“Jenn do you want to partner up?” inquired Alex again as Jenn looked at her, it would be so much helpful to have someone who actually knew what was going on instead of just asking her parents
“Sure.” Said Jenn as Alex smiled a wide happy smile.
“Alright, I’ll text my parents you text yours we need to have them meet so we can plan out our joint plan.” Said Alex as she took out her phone and began to work her thumbs like crazy. Jenn did the same and texted both her parents.
She kept it simple, we have the theme partnering up with Alex they want to come over to plan. When?
She got a response right away from her mother.
“Great choice you and Alex will bring lots of attention to each other what is the theme?”
Before she could respond her father answered in the group text.
“I agree, how about 6 tonight at our place, we have the bigger living room for everyone.” Said her father
“Does Six work at my place?” asked Jenn not sure what to say and just going off auto pilot.
“My mom works till 5:30 can we do 6:30?” inquired Alex as Jenn typed in that 6:30 would be better.
“6:30 it is.” Said her mother “What is the theme?”
“Contrast.” Answered Jenn not sure what that meant yet.
“Great, I’ll get your wardrobe display out and ready.” Said her mother as Jenn wondered what was happening.
“Alright, see you at 6:30.” Said Alex as the final bell rang and people started to run around like mad men some pairing up, some in groups and so on.
For Jenn she could not get out of there fast enough, she made it home to find her mother in her bedroom pulling out multiple dresses and outfits some of whom Jenn never knew she had and putting them in large rolling closet which was also something she didn’t know she had.
“Here help me out we need to get everything ready and then get the house picked up as well.” Said her mother as Jenn threw herself into the work. She was still going on auto pilot wondering if this wasn’t just some nightmare or the like.
Her father arrived home and soon helped carry down the case to the living room and helped with the cleaning. It was almost like when guests showed up, it was just before 6:30 when a knock at the door announced the arrival of Alex and her parents. Her father was pulling another large rolling closet which looked a lot like the Jenn’s one in the living room. Jenn’s father helped the other man carry it into the living room and set it up beside Jenn’s.
“Dinner is running a little late, so lets get started.” Announced Jenn’s mother as she opened Jenn’s closet and pulled out two dresses, one black the other white both where very relieving and something Jenn didn’t even know she had. “I think these two are a good starting point.”
“I agree.” Confirmed Alex’s mom as she opened Alex’s closet and pulled out another pair of dresses, slightly different but one was black the other was white. That is when it hit Jenn.
The theme was Contrast, so if she was in black Alex was expected to be in white, if someone was in red the other was to be in blue. It was all about Contrast.
