Leah can’t think of any way to get out of daycare. At least, not anything that will be less humiliating than her current situation. So, she reluctantly allows the diaper change to progress.
“All right, time to get dressed!” Tina says once she’s finished changing Leah’s diaper. She sets Leah on the floor. “Can you take care of yourself?”
“Yeah,” Leah says.
“Great. When you’re ready for breakfast, come downstairs.” Tina leaves the bathroom. Leah walks back to her bedroom and puts on the clothes that had been purchased for her yesterday. In an attempt to cheer herself up, she poses in front of her mirror. She looks just like a regular toddler girl. The only downside to her outfit is that the diaper cover conceals her diaper.
“Well, I’m gonna be miserable, might as well make this the outfit I want,” Leah says to herself. She takes off the diaper cover and stashes it under her bed. Satisfied by the way her diaper is now very evident, Leah goes downstairs. Tina looks over.
“Where’s your diaper cover?”
“I don’t know. It wasn’t with the rest of the stuff.”
“Huh. Maybe I forgot to buy it. Do you mind having your diaper on display?” Tina asks. Leah shakes her head.
“No. I mean, most people will think I’m a regular toddler, anyways, so I’m not embarrassed by wearing a diaper.”
“Good.” Tina puts a plate of pancakes on the table. “Eat up.”
After breakfast, Tina packs a diaper bag of diapers and school supplies for Leah, then carries her out to the car and buckles her into the car seat. They drive to the high school. The second the car comes to a stop, Leah feels a little pee squirt into her diaper from nerves.
Tina brings Leah into the high school and makes a beeline for the daycare.
“Hi, who is this sweetie?” asks the person at the front desk.
“Leah.”
“Leah…oh, right! She’s a special case, isn’t she?” asks the daycare worker. Tina nods. “Got it. Don’t worry, we’ll take good care of her.”
“Have a good day,” Tina says as she hands Leah and the diaper bag over to the daycare worker.
“Sort of out of my control,” Leah mumbles. Tina chuckles and leaves. The daycare worker gets Leah settled in, but isn’t able to do anything else before someone else comes in with a toddler to check in.
Leah stands in the high school daycare, dreading what the day has in store for her. Namely, she's worried about who will be working at the daycare, and thus know her situation
