Glub, glub.
Devon was breathing hard as he turned the next aisle, and saw shelves of glass bowls and tanks filled with hundreds of fish. Some bowls contained single bettas, others contained hundreds of guppies, and some wildly exotic fish and jelly fish. Devon ran his finger around his neck, forgetting he was no longer wearing a shirt. He continued down the dimly lit aisle toward a bright spotlight. As he stepped into the circle of light, he saw it illuminated a huge fishbowl with a ceramic miniature copy of his university.
"Cool," he said. He was getting lightheaded. His skin was so dry. The water in the giant bowl seemed to call to him. He licked his lips.
He stared at the sign: "Big Fish On Campus
Back to school special!
Just add one minimermaid!"
"Just add minimermaid?" Devon said shaking his head. Then stepping up to the bowl to scoop out a handful of water, Devon was surprised at how big the bowl seemed to be. Initially, he thought it was a 24" bowl. But standing in front of it now, the rim was above his head.
Devon reached up, grippimg the edge of the bowl with both hands, he pulled himself up, and straddled the rim of the bowl. One foot dangled over the water. It was over a foot below him. He looked back over the side he'd just climbed up, and found instead of 6 or 7 feet, it was at least a 30 foot drop to the ground. Fearing he would fall, he shifted towards the opening of the bowl, fell about 7 feet and into the giant fishbowl. Splash.
Startled Devons swallowed a mouthful of water. Devon wasn't drowning. In fact he was now breathing easy. He was breathing water.
