The Arcade

Survive the Barn VR - Introduction

added by CK 4 years ago A BM S Bovine

You were shocked by how realistic this virtual experience had been so far. The arcade had somehow managed to create a model that closely resembled yourself in the real world, and the range of feeling and atmosphere was something else! The dirt floor felt like dirt, and picking up a pinch of the stuff proved this simulation was even tracking the granules as they floated to the ground. Each individual straw of hay could be separated, manipulated, and broken exactly where you applied pressure. Shoving the pile of hay didn't cause any lag or rendering issues, either. Sticking hay in your mouth even gave you a dusty taste!

However, this game the developers had devoted so much depth into, seemed weak by comparison. Only one level, three enemy types, and there were some serious questions about needing to play a game for 24 straight hours before the exit was made accessible. Hopefully game-time was vastly accelerated, or else you couldn't see how anyone would reasonably be able to survive 24 hours of this. Furthermore, the whole nudity issue did not mesh well with how well-simulated the game was, so far. You actually felt nude, with your junk swaying out of tune with the rest of your body when you turned abruptly. Moving your hand down to grab the virtual genitals shocked you as a similar pressure was put on your real penis, or at least it felt like it did. Was this VR helmet tapped into your brain?

You'd just rushed over and grabbed the first VR headset that was available, but this game was definitely not something up your alley. Dodging some cows and living milk-machines for a full day was dumb. You couldn't find any sort of in-game interface to quit, but you knew a surefire way to get out of any VR game. Sliding your hands up along the sides of your face should cause the headset to come right-

Your train of thought reached an abrupt halt as you felt nothing come off, Your hands simply glided through your hair, as if there was nothing to remove. You took in a quick, shallow breath. Okay, the game is apparently disrupting your ability to control your real body. All you need to do is beat the dumb game and you'll be fine. Even if you lose once or twice, it'd only be a matter of time before you win or an arcade employee freed you.

You look over the game rules on the wall once more. Avoid the steers or become a cow, avoid the cows or become a calf, avoid the milk machines or grow an udder. Do it for 24 hours, and the exit becomes available. Something about fail conditions being permanent. Barn is crawling with all three enemy types, and they're aggressive. Timer starts when you leave the safe room.

You take a few moments to consider the game as a whole. The bull was easy enough to figure out how it could "force" its change onto you, but how would a cow force you to drink its milk, or a milk machine force you to use it? Maybe it was one of those games where just coming in contact would cause the failure condition. As to the consequences being permanent, that sounded like some weak game-lore intended to make the consequences of failure sound more dire. What would be the point of a hyper-realistic game where you can do anything, if the impossible stuff was disallowed? The developers must've intended for people to fail the game a few times, so they could explore all of their unique fail-transformations.

You stood back up, resolved to ace this game in one go. This really wasn't your type of game, and you didn't want anyone catching you on it while you were trapped in here. You step out of the safe zone, and a loud bang signals the start, and a light thump causes you to look down. Some kind of watch was now attached to your wrist, with 23:59:55 written on it, counting down. You briefly considered how weird it was to be nude with just a watch on, but that thought was quickly silenced when lowing noises and mechanical clanking echoed down the corridor. The game had started, and you didn't have time to waste.
