"Yep."
"Even if it's really crazy or weird?"
"Yep."
"Even if I might not be sentient in the usual sense?"
"Yes, Master. I guarantee that everyone will continue to have life and consciousness of some sort, even if they're technically an inanimate object. And it's guaranteed to be a positive outcome. For example, if you became a planet you would enjoy being a planet even though people don't think of those as having feelings. If you became king of the world, you would be a benevolent ruler and never go mad with power, unless you were specifically wishing to be an evil dictator, although I don't know why anyone would."
You're so excited you can barely think. It's surely too much to believe, but you do believe her because you she's obviously a genie from what you've already seen. And you can finally get what you've always wanted.
"Genie, I wish to turn into a plant."
She raises an eyebrow. "Wow, Master, that is an unusual wish. I've had masters wish to be kings, or live as an animal, or be immortal as a statue or robot. But I've never heard anybody wish to go into the ground and live out their life as a plant. Can I ask you what inspires you to desire this?"
"Well, it just seems like it would be so much better. Not have to worry about all the things humans worry about. Just make your own living from the sun and the rain and the earth. I look at the trees and the flowers and think I'd be better off if I could just give up my humanity and live like they do."
The genie smiles. "It's always amazing to see what people want if there are really no limits. I guess some people would rather not even be people. Very well, then. If you wish to be a plant, then a plant is what you shall be. But as I said, the wishes I grant are specific. What kind of plant would you become?"
