“All right,” Tina says, the second they’ve set foot inside the museum. She grabs a stroller and buckles Grant into it, despite his protests. “Let’s get to-” A sudden jolt of pain ripples through her abdomen. She gasps. There’s a splash.
“Um, excuse me,” someone nearby says. “I, uh, I think your water broke.”
“My-” Tina looks down. There’s liquid directly below her. Another wave of pain hits. She moans in agony.
“Did you just have a contraction?” the stranger asks. Before Tina can answer, the stranger leads her over to a bench to sit down. “Is anyone here a doctor?” the stranger calls, attracting attention. An objectively attractive young man rushes over.
“I am.”
“Great. This woman is in labor. Do you think you can take care of her while I call 911?”
“Not a problem,” the doctor says. He smiles. “What’s your name, miss?”
“Tina. Tina Worth,” Tina says. Her mind races. How is this possible? How could she actually be in labor? She’s just supposed to be pretending to be a pregnant woman! She has another contraction. “My son-”
“Oh, he’s right here,” the stranger says, nodding at the stroller. Grant stares at Tina with wide, horrified eyes. “An ambulance is on its way. Is there someone else you want me to call? Your husband?”
“I’m not married,” Tina says. She moans in pain. “Oh, god!”
“Miss Worth, do you mind if I check to see how dilated you are?” the doctor asks. Unsure of what that means, Tina nods. The doctor ducks under the skirt of her dress. “Wow, your labor is moving faster than I’ve ever seen before!”
“What do you mean?” the stranger asks.
“Honestly, there’s a decent chance she’ll give birth right here,” the doctor answers. Tina’s eyes boggle in horror. Another contraction hits. “Just breathe, ma’am.”
Tina takes a deep breath. She looks at Grant, who is still staring at her. Of course this would happen. Nothing’s going right today. She groans in pain from yet another contraction. Right now, she doesn’t care about anything except where she’s going to wind up giving birth.
