When Veronica left the pool, Amy at the same time jumped into it. From Veronica’s point of view it looked like desperate attempt to surpass her, but she knew that Amy didn’t have any special swimming or acrobatic skills to match her. Three minutes later she changed her mind.
Amy, still in the water was giving a performance like no human was doing before. The closest thing that could compare her fast swimming, elegant jumps few meters above water, front flips and backflips could be only seen in some water parks, performed by well skilled and trained dolphins. For Amy it was a pleasant feeling, she was not only feeling so free and powerful in the water, but also she felt a giant satisfaction that she indeed defeated Veronica- everybody was looking at her poses, taking photos of her and filming her acrobations to post them into social media and tag her.
Veronica spent last few minutes on her phone, looking that almost everybody focused on recording or watching Amy’s impressions online. At this moment she lost all attention and there was nothing to reverse it. Then, she noticed, that she had sat next to Amy’s bag. She had to leave it before jumping into the water, but she forgot to hide her stuff. On top of her stuff lying on the ground she saw little box marked „Swim like fish cream”. Veronica clenched her fists and teeth, „so this is how she managed to do all this weird poses”- she thought to herself. She applied the cream on her legs and arms, and just like Amy, she felt an urge to get into that water and fight for her birthday party.
Amy after doing another few laps and tricks stopped for the moment. She looked at the watch on her webbed hand to check the time she spent on swimming. Wait, her WEBBED HAND? Yes, she noticed that her arms from her fingertips to elbow were covered in dark blue scars, that matched her swimsuit. Between her fingers there was a blueish-transparent webbing, and on the sides of her forearms she saw two little fins. All of this was meant for better swimming and manoeuvring. On the one hand she liked it, because her fingers couldn’t wrinkle like the human ones after spending some time in the water, on the other hand she was mutating, and she didn’t expect that to happen after applying the cream. She decided to keep her hand in the water, because she didn’t want anybody to see them. She would spent more time on thinking what already happened, when she saw Veronica jumping into pool. „What is she going to do..?”- thought Amy and then she saw that she started doing tricks like she was doing few minutes ago- jumps, laps, flips etc, but combined with Veronica’s underwater skills. „That bitch had to stole my cream”- thought Amy and at the same time she saw satisfied face of Veronica. Amy understood that the real duel between them already started.
Veronica’s advantages were her dancing skills, but Amy, at least for few minutes had advantage of using her hands, until the same thing will happen to Veronica. Another advantage, that she realised, she had got was better underwater vision. So Amy started challenging Veronica under the water to tire her as much as she could, and what would happen next wasn’t important or even predictable. Birthday party guests could witness the best water performance made by (still?) humans. They could see two fast moving, blue and pink objects that were jumping, making a flips, and every record that one of them scored, forced second girl to surpass it.
Another hour passed, and Amy was getting tired, but she looked at Veronica that she wasn’t in so different situation. Probably Veronica was so focused on doing her best, that she couldn’t notice that her hands changed too, but did they? Amy was too far from her to properly notice it, but maybe this cream took an effect only on Amy…? She wanted to keep on swimming, but she couldn’t move her legs, like they went numb. Amy looked at Veronica, but she was still making her performance, from her perspective it looked like Amy gave up, but she wanted to humiliate her and kept on doing her impressions.
Amy felt tingling in her legs, and she saw that the skin on her legs was moving, like new shape was going to form. Then she saw it, like segments, one after another, like skirt on the skirt, on the skirt, her legs were getting covered in blue scales from her waist to heels. Then her feet transformed into the blue, semi-translucent fin. She became a mermaid!
