The chamber door opened up and mist poured out, and a hollow clopping sound rang out when Chris teetered out onto the floor in an unsteady gait. When the smoke cleared, Chris and the audience could both clearly see his long, furry feet and the broad, equine hooves they ended in. The announcer excitedly piped up with a description of Chris's change.
"We see Chris is now sporting some new footwear, taken from Equus africanus asinus. Each foot has essentially a single toe, reinforced with a solid structure made from keratin, the same substance found in horns, hair, and fingernails. Part of the prize package for today's winner will be luxury shoe shopping trip to fashionable Paris. It looks like Chris probably won't have be getting much use out of that even if the rest of the game goes his way."
The host followed the announcer's exposition with, "Let's hear our first freakshow in today's game of Punishments!" The audience applauded and laughed. Chris grumbled under his breath and clopped back over to his podium, furious that he was going to have donkey hooves for the rest of his life because of this stupid game show, but hey, he signed the waiver. Maybe the insanely expensive prizes at the end would be worth it.
"Next question," said the host after Chris had picked up his buzzer.
HOST: What is the capital of Italy?
BECKY: Rome!
HOST: That's correct! 10 points for Becky. Next question, fill in the blank: "How much would would a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could ________ wood."
BECKY: Chuck!
HOST: Right again, Becky. 10 more points. Chris looks pretty unhappy there with donkey hooves and zero points against your 20. Our next question brings us back to European geography with "What is the capital of Romania?"
CHRIS: Okay, seriously, I DO actually know this one, and you BETTER not send me back in that damn chamber. It's Budapest.
HOST: I'm sorry, Chris, our judges are quite certain the answer is BUCHAREST. Similarly sounding answer there, easy mistake to make I'm sure. Well, audience, it looks like Chris is going back to the Chamber of Freaks for a second time!
CHRIS: NO! Quit that, let me GO! It's not FAIR! I obviously meant to say Bucharest, aw MAN!
