Ty's mind was racing with possibilities. Could he really do anything? Were there any limits? What if he did something to hurt himself, or someone else? Was it even ethical to change other people?
Ty shut his eyes tightly and pressed his closed fists against his eyelids. He was breathing rapidly and he was feeling very anxious. Was he having a panic attack? He had them in the past, he was having them since his parents died years ago, so he knew the signs.
"Ugh," he groaned in frustration, "I wish I could calm down and think clearly!"
Ty felt a surge of...something run through his body. Exhilaration? Power? The feeling vanished suddenly, but his anxiety also completely disappeared. His breathing was normal, his body was relaxed and his thoughts were suddenly completely clear.
Ty remained on his bed, pondering his current mental state. He had wished for his anxiety to go away and to be able to think clearly, and that's what happened. Something happened to Ty that gave him the ability to alter reality with nothing more than a wish. It was fascinating, really. Ty made a mental list of possible explanations. Aliens, ancient magic, brain aneurysm, some sort of virtual reality. It couldn't be a coincidence that it happened on his birthday, right? Could it possibly be genetic?
He quickly decided that the "how and why" weren't important at the moment, but rather the possibility of perfecting his life and finally being happy was the most important priority at the moment.
Ty was very happy that he had accidentally made a wish to clear his mind, as he was suddenly excited at the possibilities rather than being overwhelmed by them. He wanted to make the best possible choices when making wishes, but he realized that he had to work slowly and methodically. There was no way to know the limitations or drawbacks of his new ability, not yet anyway. It might be a "monkeys law" situation where his wishes all have unintended, devastating consequences and that was not an appealing thought at all.
It could also be very limited. In fact, for all he knew he could have already used it up completely! He had changed Dustin this morning and then he made his second wish just a few minutes ago. Perhaps it was a standard Genie situation, three wishes only?
Ty thought long and hard about how to proceed. He heard his family moving about the house, preparing for their day. Lucky for Ty, they would all intentionally be ignoring him because they despised him and wanted to torture him on his birthday by isolating him. Normally that would be terrible for The, but right now it gave him the perfect opportunity to think and plan.
After about twenty minutes of deep thought Ty was ready to proceed. He had determined the best way to move forward would be to increase his intelligence. Being smarter, along with his new ability to think clearly and rationally, would hopefully give him the best chance of utilizing this new ability to its fullest potential with minimal unwanted outcomes.
It was a shot in the dark and things could go horribly wrong, but anything was better than living the life he had now.
"I wish for knowledge of all things and for the ability to retain and interpret that knowledge with no negative side effects."
The felt a familiar surge run through his body. He was nervously excited, but thanks to his previous wish he remained calm while the mystery power made his wish come true.
The strange feeling subsided and Ty took a deep breath.
