"Yeah... yeah no I know- YES, yes I know I promised I just... ugh listen Mindy I'll be there!" Eric tried to argue over the phone with his daughter, to no avail.
It was Mindy's 16th birthday in a few days, and Eric had promised her he'd take her out looking for a car that was affordable in her range. She had been saving up money for years. Of course, Eric hadn't expected a business trip to come up so soon. He was in town grabbing a few last minute things before he would head off to the city.
"Baby please-" He continued, but he heard the dial tone. Eric put his cellphone away sadly, realizing she had hung up. "Dammit Mindy, I'm doing this for all of us." He muttered to nobody in particular.
Eric was a big time member of a trade union, or at least he considered himself to be big time. As somewhat of a workaholic, he often took more focus with his work than with his family. His wife Georgia was beginning to get larger by eating away the stress he caused, Mindy was leaning towards a more emo-style, and his youngest child Tina didn't notice a thing was wrong, but still missed her daddy.
Eric sighed. The lies he had to tell... to everyone. It wasn't his fault, at least that's what he told himself. It was in the job description, but also to try and help balance his work life with home. He was basically bald, the last wisps of red hair beginning to fall from the end of his head. He had gained a few pounds in the gut, and his glasses had to get larger and larger lenses with all the computers he had to stare at all day long.
"Ugh, just once I'd like to... hang on what's this?" He asked, noticing an open space where once he was sure there had been a store.
He walked in, glancing around quickly. Eric didn't want to waist too much time, and was about to leave when a glistening object caught his eye. Looking down, there was a small, bronze looking ring sitting on the edge of a fountain that was in the small area. He tilted his head, wondering who could have left it there.
"Hmm, maybe Mindy might like it? I'm sure she still likes jewelry... besides, worst case I could sell it and pay for Georgia's rumba classes." He muttered, quickly picking it up.
Eric had intended to store it in his briefcase, but subconsciously slipped it onto his _________ hand, unaware that the power of the wring not only compelled him to do so, but also now gave him and extraordinary ability. Though, whether curse or blessing would be up for him to decide.
As he continued along, he began to wonder what else he needed for his trip when he saw his phone began to ring.
"Oh dear, ________ is calling..." He muttered, answering the phone quickly.
