"Hmm...how long, huh?" you ponder out loud. "Specifics, you say...well, it's true that there's certain things that can be achieved by being human, or at least having human abilities...and what would be the point of letting go of my humanity entirely...after all, then I wouldn't even realize I had ever been human in the first place, and wouldn't appreciate fully the joy of being an animal..." You sit back on your bed and look around. You're a self-reliant woman, but you're sick of being just a pawn in patriarchal human society. However, it always pays to have a backup plan. You finally make a decision.
"Okay, I think I have my first wish now," you state decisively.
"Pray tell, Master," the genie says to you with a nonplussed grin.
"I wish I could shift back and forth painlessly between my human form and the form of a mountain lion at will, partially or completely, and that I can maintain my human consciousness as well as the ability to speak when in mountain lion form, but I will have the instinctive understanding and know-how of a mountain lion to be able to survive as one in the wild," you rattle off, making sure it comes out as a single long wish so the genie has as little wiggle room as possible and cannot pull one over on you.
"Ah, a very thought-out wish, Master! I must admit, most of my previous masters simply jump into their wishes without considering the consequences, you seem to be the more cautious type!" the genie grins, and you are not quite certain if it is genuine or slightly sardonic. "As you wish, Master, so shall it be!" The genie raises her hands and gives a nod.
You look around, but nothing seems different. You look exactly the same in the mirror, so you turn to glance at the genie quizzically. However, she just smiles at you calmly. Turning back to the mirror, you take a breath and close your eyes to concentrate. You don't want to plunge head-first into this, however tempting it may be. But head-first might actually be a good idea. More specifically, ear-first. You picture your ears shifting, growing more elongated and triangular, moving up your head, and then...
...your right ear twitches. Somehow you know one ear is pointed to your right while the other faces forward. You open your eyes in shock to see the ears of a mountain lion sitting atop your head. Reaching up, you touch your furry, warm ears and feel the sensation of your fingers on said ears. A huge grin breaks out on your face as you look back at the genie in wonder.
