Nora couldn’t travel like this. She couldn’t stand the idea of wearing the filthy clothes, but her adult side immediately shot down the idea of walking, or rather, crawling, around naked. She peeked out from the bush, looking for some place she might be able to find clothes. Her eyes landed on a basement window. Maybe her neighbors stored old baby clothes in the basement?
The family was apparently going to leave soon, so she waited in the bush until she heard the doors close and the car start. Once she was sure the house was empty, she crawled over to the basement window. Luckily, it was already slightly open to let in some fresh air. Nora pried it open the rest of the way. She looked down. Directly below the window was a beanbag chair. She swallowed nervously and crawled in, falling and landing rather comfortably on the beanbag chair.
Now that she was in the basement, she began to crawl around, looking for some old baby clothes. Her eyes landed on a pile of cardboard boxes. She couldn’t read the writing on them, but it was her best shot. Nora crawled over and clumsily pulled herself to her feet to look through the boxes. She let out a sigh of relief. These boxes were full of clothes that would fit her perfectly.
After digging around a bit, she even managed to locate a reusable diaper. Nora grabbed the reusable diaper as well as a soft, white onesie patterned with butterflies. Clumsily and slowly, she dressed herself.
Suddenly, to her horror, she heard footsteps coming down the stairs. Her neighbors were home! Hurriedly, Nora ducked behind the pile of boxes. She held her breath as Amy’s father entered the basement.
“Huh, why are these open?” Amy’s father said, walking over. Nora closed her eyes, praying that she wouldn’t be found.
