“Where’d you get this?” a voice asked. Amber’s phone was taken out of her hands. She glared up at the employee who had taken her phone away, a teenage girl whose nametag read “Kelsey”. “Someone your age should not be playing with phones! You’re too little!”
“Mine!” Amber said, reaching for the phone. Kelsey tucked it into her pocket.
“I’m going to have to talk to your mommy when she picks you up, to check whether this really is yours. But right now, you need to go in timeout!” Before Amber could do anything, Kelsey scooped her up and carried her over to a playpen, inside which she was deposited. “I’ll be back in fifteen minutes.”
Kelsey walked away from the timeout playpen. She pulled out the phone she had confiscated from Amber. Some weird app was open. Curious, she hit the button “Generate New Sentence”.
“Amber is angry she is in timeout.” Kelsey looked back at Amber. After a moment, she changed “angry” to “sad”. Immediately, Amber began to wail. One of Kelsey’s coworkers rushed over to handle the situation. Kelsey generated another sentence.
“Amber’s crying isn’t from being in a dirty diaper.”
“Hmm, not dirty,” Kelsey’s coworker commented, checking Amber’s diaper. “Why are you crying?” Her curiosity growing, Kelsey changed the sentence, swapping “isn’t” for “is”. Immediately, a look of concentration appeared on Amber’s face. Kelsey’s coworker chuckled. “Never mind. Let’s get you changed.”
Kelsey’s eyes widened. This app could change reality! She had to use it more!
