To Marshall’s disappointment, nothing happened. No glowing came to change him back to a girl. He scowled.
“It’s not working, is it?” Christine asked. Marshall shook his head. “Oh, that’s a bummer. Well, let’s get you back in something better suited for a boy.” Before Marshall could say anything, Christine had picked him up and was bringing him back to the boys’ nursery. “Before I put you in something fresh and clean, do you need to use the potty?”
“No, I’m fine,” Marshall said immediately. He refused to sit on a toddler training potty in front of a grown woman. Christine raised an eyebrow.
“Are you sure you don’t want to at least try?” she asked.
“I’m sure,” Marshall said firmly.
“All right.” Christine brought Marshall over to a changing table, where she changed him into a disposable diaper patterned with dinosaurs and a soft, blue onesie. “There! Much better.”
“Thank you,” Marshall said as Christine set him on the floor. She smiled at him, then left the nursery, closing the door behind her. Marshall’s heart stopped. He hurried to the door, toddling due to the diaper spreading his legs apart. To his horror, he couldn’t open the door. “Let me out!”
“Sorry, but it’s not safe for you to be wandering around. I’ll fetch you in the morning,” Christine said through the door.” Marshall sat down on the floor, pouting. He was stuck.
