You think back to the old hand-me-down video game console you have gathering dust in your real-world bedroom back on Earth. You scratch your virtual chin as an idea comes to mind.
"Hey, do you aliens have any knowledge of Earth 'video games'?" you ask. The alien voice seems to pause before continuing.
"Perhaps 'knowledge' would be the wrong word. We have access to your planet's rudimentary entertainment simulations within our systems, but we haven't spent much of our research time studying them in depth, other than how they function sociologically certain Earth cultures. Our orbital sensors are good enough to scan the contents of most of your computers, so it was easy for us to figure out how you store data and how to emulate your programs' functionality in that context. You could say we've already downloaded all of your planets software from space, including the games."
Oh, this was going to be good.
"Since I'm basically just data now you think you could, I don't know, put me into a video game?" The voice paused again.
"It's cool that you're already thinking of some directions this experiment could evolve in. We are very eager to study your uploaded minds responses to diverse stimuli. Some of our scientists are very interested to see how your mind would be affected by an extrapolation of one of your species' own attempts at environmental simulation."
You take that as a yes.
"What 'video game' would you like to experience? We could give your mind the virtual body of any entity from any simulated environment."
