Jake decided to get some sleep for now. It had been a long night and his head was starting to hurt from all the memory changes. He turned off his laptop, which was now a much newer model, and headed to bed.
He woke up the next day earlier than he was used to, the Sun having barely risen. He then suddenly remembered his dad telling him that old saying about the early bird catching the worm, which in turn reminded him of what happened last night and the Chronivac. Jake was about to grab his laptop when he noticed his room had changed. For starters, the desk his laptop was on no longer looked like it was made in the 70s, but instead was bought recently, the hardwood still mostly intact.
Jake then looked at the rest of the room in shock. His bed had an actual headrest now, and there were movie posters on the wall, alongside sport posters. Jake was never that into sports before, but that wasn't the case now apparently.
There were even trophies on display. Jake knew they were his, and that they were for junior martial arts competitions his dad signed him up for. Nothing too big, but most of them were first place trophies.
He was still taking in the changes when his door opened and his dad's head popped in. "Hey champ! Up already, huh?" He said cheerfully.
"Uhh... Mornin' dad." Jake replied.
"Just checking if you woke up already. Go take a shower, I'll get started on breakfast. How do pancakes sound?"
Jake couldn't even remember the last time he had pancakes. Wait no, he could. It was last week. But Ms. Patterson never put that much effort into his breakfast... But he remembered looking at Mark while he cooked them.
Realizing his dad was waiting for an answer, Jake nodded at him. "Sounds great, dad." His dad nodded in return and left the room.
Jake got up and left for the bathroom. His mind was racing as he showered. He wanted to use the Chronivac some more, but he needed to check how things were going first, especially with Tim and Martha.
Jake changed into some clothes from his now larger wardrobe and walked to the kitchen, the smell of pancakes filling his nose as he entered. His dad put a plate on front of him as he sat down and took the seat next to him. Jake thanked him and they began eating. He wanted to ask about Martha, but couldn't figure out how to bring it up.
Thankfully, he didn't have to. "So, Tim and I are going out tonight." His dad said. "I know you know better than to do anything dangerous, but I'm still gonna ask Martha to come over and check on you, okay?"
There was his opening! "Yeah, sure, dad." Jake answered. "How is she, by the way?"
"Martha?" His dad replied, arching an eyebrow. "She's okay. Tim said she and that lady that keeps going to her bakery are still shyly flirting with each other, neither one actually asking the other out. Why, did she tell you something?"
Jake shook his head. "No, I was just curious about it." So it did work! Martha was now into women, and his dad and Tim were happily dating. Jake wanted to pat himself on the back for a job well done.
Instead, his dad pat him on the shoulder and got up from the chair. "C'mon buddy, I'll drive you to school today." That's right, Jake still had school to go to! He put his dish on the sink and went upstairs to his room.
As he grabbed his backpack, Jake looked at his laptop. The USB drive with the Chronivac was still connected to it. Should he take his laptop to school? But what if someone saw it, it wasn't exactly small. Or maybe just take the drive and put it on one of the school computers. Though that was still kinda dangerous...
