Meeting Nellie's Friends... And Thomas

added by Fitzroy Clement 2 years ago O

Miles daydreamed as he walked by well kempt homes and various small business places, imagining himself as some kind of Marty McFly fish out of water. Still, that didn't stop him from feeling like he belonged here. But why? He had no interest in the fifties. He was more than happy living in 2021. But Miles decided to save that thought for a later date as he rounded another corner and finally found a group waiting for her...him...her.

"There's the birthday girl!" shouted one of them. "Come here, you!"

They were an eclectic group.

Nellie's friends were named Kathy, Jill, Veronica, Eddie, Yorick,..and Thomas. According to Nellie's diary, Kathy was Japanese-American, and had been in an internment camp with her parents when she was a kid. By Nellie's own admission, she was absolutely furious about this, and had wanted to protest for Kathy's family to get some kind of reparations for their mistreatment by the government, but Kathy and her parents had mostly just wanted to put the bad times behind them. She was otherwise a very sweet girl allegedly. Miles smirked at the idea of Nellie sounding like a proto-Social Justice Warrior like those people online. Kathy was going out with Yorick, who was apparently quite a character and the most hyperactive and creative of the bunch. He was on the football team as a running back and the drama club as well. Veronica was ironically very blonde, unlike her namesake in Archie comics, was very bubbly, and was quite rebellious. She smoked, drank, fixed cars, and had even smoked weed(Without her parents knowing, of course). Miles liked her already, but she was going out with a greaser named Thaddeus from another school. Eddie had been a friend of Nellie's since kindergarten when their two families had shared a duplex together. He was going out with Abigail Wheeler, who was a preppy girl outside of Nellie's social circle. Nellie expressed feelings of attraction for Eddie occasionally, but always backtracked, saying that he was more like the brother she never had. Jill was more or less a hanger on. She was a little nerd girl that Nellie liked enough to take under her wing and try and cheer her up. Apparently, it was working, and Jill, who had been bullied as a freshman, was no longer bullied and in fact studying Judo. Finally...there was Thomas.

Nellie had written pages about him, dotting her eyes with little hearts.

"Hey there, Nellie" said the heartthrob Thomas. Miles's heart began to beat heavily in her chest. Why? He wasn't gay in the slightest. Was Nellie's personality taking over?
