“Well here we are.”
Casseus now gazed around the nondescript neighborhood, puzzled that the Catalyst would call this place home. “I was expecting something far grander Boss.” The Boss simply shrugged as he now stood next to Casseus. “To be honest I was too,” he said. “You know, if this Catalyst wasn’t trying to change the world, I think we could of gotten along rather well.”
For a moment the two stood silent, simply taking in the bland suburban landscape. “Well,” The Boss exclaimed. “Time to get to work.” Casseus nodded, a sinister smirk spreading across his face.
“Time to end the bloodline,” they stated together, before laughing.
After quite a deal of planning the Boss and Casseus had come up with a rather ingenious plan. Part one, resurrect someone that could kill a Catalyst. For the Normal that was easy enough. The organization had plenty of records on Evan Harris. While the Normals involvement with Evan had been minimal, they had seen the results. The wizard went dark, slaughtering not only the last Catalyst but several of her allies. Resurrecting him was simple enough, especially with Casseus help. If all went as planned Evan would kill the Catalyst and take his place. Then the Normal could shape the world exactly how they wanted.
Taking out a Catalyst was just one part of the plan. This second part meant the Boss and Casseus would have to go hands on. It didn’t take a genius to know that if a Catalyst had family, somehow, sometime, someway, one of them would seek revenge. Both the Boss and Casseus had been around long enough to see that old trope come to pass. This time, they would stop it before it even got started. Kill the Catalysts family and his allies family and viola, no one left to enact revenge. After doing a bit of spying (and gathering information from the resurrected Evan) the two realized the Catalyst was mostly likely a teenager with a family in town. Since this family had no magic of its own, the Boss decided to take himself, Casseus, and about a dozen troops to end the bloodline. Now having used Casseus magic to trace the Catalysts magic to its source, they would wipe them out while Evan did away with the Catalyst.
Or so they thought.
Casseus and the Boss paused, curiously staring at a pink anthro cheetah woman in a business suit. “What the hell is this,” The Boss questioned.
Mandy pushed her glasses up as she gazed at the Normal. She knew who they were and what they would do to her if given the chance. Still she had a job to do. “Are you the Boss,” she asked. The Boss nodded, Mandy approaching the robed figure before handing him paperwork. “My name is Amanda Franklin and this is an injunction preventing you from doing harm to any non magical entities connected to the so called Catalyst per Inter-dimensional law.”
“Your joking ,” Casseus exclaimed. “Tell me this is some sort of joke.”
“Oh it’s no joke Casseus.”
Casseus frowned, turning to see a middle aged man and woman standing off to the side. Two people Casseus immediately recognized. “Jack and Kellie,” he grumbled. “What is the meaning of this?”
“This,” Kellie stated. “Is to keep you and your friend their from upsetting the balance of the universe. You see Casseus, after your last master wrecked havoc, the powers that be decided that it would be wise to curb the power of any would be conquerors.”
“In other words,” Jack smirked. “Non magical parties are off limits. You try to harm anyone without magic in this neighborhood and you’re going to be in a world of hurt.”
Casseus snarled, glancing over at the Boss. Although the Bosses face was covered, it appeared he was reviewing the injunction he had been presented with. Casseus was insensed, prevented from carrying out his plans because of some inter dimensional legal mumbo jumbo. Still, perhaps he could still take out this so called lawyer.
“I wouldn’t do that if I were you,” Jack warned. “Mandy falls under my protection. You strike her and I can bring the full force of my armies down upon you. Mind you, I do hope your that stupid. Would love nothing more than to crush the lot of you.”
“Same goes for me,” Kellie stated. “And you don’t want to know what I have waiting. Jack May have a demonic army but I have deities just itching to step back into the mortal realm just one more time.”
Casseus glanced at the dozen troops they had at their disposal. The team they had brought with them were seasoned mercenaries, they had seen some of the most intense fighting in their years of service. Still, the prospect of having to fight demons and gods made even them a bit hesitant.
“You realize I’ll have to have my lawyers review this,” The Boss stated. “Check for loopholes and such. Take it before an inter dimensional court.”
“We would except nothing less,” Mandy stated. “However, you’ll find the inter dimensional court systems tend to air on the side of caution. The injunction on its face is solid. Their are no loopholes. Failure to abide by the terms dictated in said document will result in swift action.”
The Boss sighed, his robed head nodding as he turned to leave. “Wait that’s it,” Casseus exclaimed in shock.
“Afraid So,” The Boss stated. “Inter dimensional law is not something you want to mess with. I had a uncle that tried that, broke the law and for doing so was set upon by things I still am unable to describe. The fights over here, time to turn back and go home.”
As the Boss now vanished with his men, Casseus turned to glare at both Jack and Kellie. The smug looks on their faces only enraging him more. As he now vanished for home, Jack and Kellie let out a sigh of relief. While Evan would be problematic they had at least stopped Darren and his friends families from being harmed.
