Sarah felt trapped in a vicious cycle. With each wish she used to try to prevent Alexis from getting inside she was getting younger and more scared of the possibility of making it inside. And now here she was barely out of elementary school and on the verge of making another wish.
She bit her lip as she watched Alexis fiddle with the window. It visibly lacked a lock, but years of abandonment had clearly had an impact. The rusted frame did not want to slide open as Alexis was straining hard against it.
For a moment Sarah hoped that it would hold without the need for her to intervene, but as it finally started to give with a high pitched squeak announcing the slow upward progress Sarah closed her eyes and hurriedly said, "I wish the window would permanently jam."
Before she opened her eyes, Sarah found her braces suddenly gone. Which made sense since she won't lose lose the last of her baby teeth until halfway through 5th grade.
"Watcha doing Sarah? You're not that scared of a window are you?"
Opening her eyes, Sarah found 10 year old Alexis giving her a confused look. Shrugging Sarah responded as nonchalantly as she could manage, "Nu uh. But are you done messing around yet?"
Alexis turned back to the window which was about a third of the way open, "It's stuck. But I think we can squeeze through."
Not again, Alexis dropped from a middle school teen down to a pig tailed elementary schooler and still was dead set on wandering around a spooky cabin? With her new memories going from gossiping with Alexis during class about boy bands to playing hopscotch during recess in a matter of minutes, does Sarah have the courage to make another wish if necessary?
