Victor couldn't deny anymore that something very weird was going on with his buddy Miles. That red nail polish that Miles was wearing simply couldn't have been there before, and he knew for a fact that Miles hadn't been that scrawny looking yesterday. Neither of these facts really scared or frightened him, but he was thoroughly confused by it all. And that hair. It's like Miles was slowly turning into a girl. Victor never gave much, if any, thought to ideas about magic and the supernatural, much less Miles's own mother secretly being a witch who was transforming her son from afar. It was totally out of his wheelhouse, so just went back to taking his notes and ignoring it for now.
Back at home, Molly was watching her son and his friend in class together. She sat on her couch, the spellbook on her lap, wondering how much longer it would take for them to figure out what was going on, and even if they did, if they could possibly do anything about it. Molly couldn't think of any way. She believed her son wasn't particularly bright enough to put two and two together, even if he figured out that magic was involved, nor did Victor seem quick enough either.
She gazed upon them, and suddenly a new idea went off in Molly's head.
Her mother Nellie had grown very lonely and isolated in her elderly years, which was one of the reasons that Molly felt contributed to her failing health and ultimately her death. Molly had tried to spend as much time with her mother as possible, as did Nellie's grandchildren, but still...Molly figured that her mother needed a friend her own age to keep her company.
“I'm already turning one child into an old woman, why not two?”
She turned the pages of her spell book and found the incantation that she was looking for, the one that she had used on Miles last night. She began to chant...
In Mr. Schmidt's classroom, Miles and Victor listened on to their old curmudgeon of a teacher drone on about political procedure. Miles ignored his hair. Victor was right when he said that it looked like a wig. It felt like one. Miles occasionally tugged at it, hoping that somehow it would just fall off, but when he pulled, he experienced a sharp pain to let him know that the mysterious haircut was indeed real. He occasionally had to wipe his new bangs out of his face, which was annoying since he constantly had to stare at his new nails.. To make things even worse, he also noticed that his feet had indeed shrunk. His shoes were now too big for for him. “Damn it...am I going to have to walk to Science class barefoot?”.
Neither had noticed as Victor's Adam's apple had slowly dissolved into his throat. Victor's vocal register was changing.
