“What the fuck just happened?” inquired Barbara as everyone lied around looking at what happened to them, they where now either mermaids or mermen depending.
“HOW THE HELL ARE WE….” Started Elizabeth as suddenly all six of them began to rise into the air, their bodies having grown in length as each tail added another foot or so to their total height or would it be length. None of that mattered now as they floated in the air.
“What is going on!” yelled Stacy as she grabbed onto her girlfriend Barbara, nearby Elizabeth was grabbing onto James. Since they where close to each other Oscar and Lindsay grabbed onto each other as they floated in the air.
“I have no idea!” yelled Lindsay as suddenly there was a pull as if they where being sucked out a vacuum. The last thing she saw of their living room was it blowing out as force shot outwards.
If anyone had been outside the house at the time, they would have seen a blue light gathering outside the windows before shooting out the top blowing out the roof and destroying half the house and catching the rest on fire.
For the people who were trapped in the light, they were tossed around like rag dolls as the beam of light shot up into the air before bending and heading far, far away from their university before bending back down toward the Earth. They caught glimpses of water and then massive amounts of sand which went on forever before the beam hit the sand and burned through it like it was nothing. The beam went through cutting a whole which quickly filled back in with sand and then heavier dirt. They had gone a short distance before the dirt turned to water as the beam carried them through the water before coming to a stop and dissipating. The water rushed in, overtaking them as they all held their breath.
They all floated in the water holding their breaths until finally Barbara could not take it anymore and let go, bubbles escaping her mouth.
“Barbara!” yelled Stacy as fear filled her voice, she suddenly realized that she was breathing the water and talking underwater.
“We have gills.” announced Jenifer as she took a deep breath and felt the water coming into her mouth and then pass over her gills exiting out slits on her neck as the oxygen was carried to her lungs. She was breathing underwater; she was talking underwater.
“We have gills.” Added Elizabeth
“We are mermaids.” added James, “Well mermen as well.”
“Where are we?” inquired Barbara
“Better question why are we fish people?” added Elizabeth
“I don’t know but it happened after that stupid crystal broke.” said Lindsay
“But the professor just gave us random mineral samples and how does that explain this?” inquired Oscar
“I don’t know.” cried Lindsay, somehow, she was crying under water, her tears denser than the water itself.
“I think we have a bigger problem.” announced Barbara, her long now golden blonde hair somehow sinking behind her like it would in air. “Look around.”
Finally everyone began to look around, the water was crystal clear and there was some light coming from different points around them and from above them as well but the strangest thing was that all around them where buildings and not modern looking buildings but ancient buildings. They floated in what looked to be a central courtyard or market with large statue of a mermaid and merman in the center. They looked like a cross between ancient Greece and Egyptian with columns and nearby large pyramid with a glowing orb on top giving off what passed for sunlight. However, everything seemed to be in dis repair. Broken columns lied in the streets, overgrown pieces of seaweed wrapped around buildings and a few buildings looked like they had been destroyed.
“I am getting a very lost civilization feel…” added Oscar
“Atlantis.” corrected Lindsay
“Like Atlantis yes.” Said Oscar
“No…this is Atlantis.” Countered Lindsay as she picked up a sign which was half covered with seaweed. It was in a language she didn’t know, but yet somehow, she was able to read it. Everyone could read it. “Atlantis best shrimp, 2 copper pieces for 10.”
“We are in the ruins of Atlantis.” said a stunned Lindsay
“We are merpeople in Atlantis.” added Barbara just as stunned
“How did we get here and how do we get home?” inquired Elizabeth
