While Madison sat smiling in her theatre seat the screen turned to static again and the film changed from a pregnancy documentary to a romance movie. A couple was just about to kiss on screen when someone spoke to her, nearly making her jump out of her skin.
“What did I miss?” A man about her age asked as he thrust a bag of popcorn into her face and made her Yelp in fear.
“What? Who are you? What happened to the movie?” Madison demanded while clutching her seat and gazing around wildly.
“I’m Kurt, your husband,” The guy replied in deadpan before Madison blinked and looked at her hand. Sure enough there was a ring on her finger and she had a sense that she knew who Kurt was, no it wasn’t a sense, she knew Kurt. He was the reason she was pregnant after all.
“The love triangle fell apart,” Madison explained with a point at the screen, taking the bag of popcorn from Kurt’s hands and throwing some in her mouth, chomping down on it and turning back to the screen.
As she chewed her stomach rumbled and began to deflate. Janette went from a seven month old fetus down to five months old and kept getting smaller. She undeveloped further and further, her organs getting smaller, her brain becoming tinier, and her features reverting. Soon enough Madison wasn’t sure if she was having a boy or a girl, and after a few more minutes you literally couldn’t tell she was pregnant.
Cells merged together, organs undifferentiated, and the effects of Janette’s presence on her mom’s body became less and less and she went from a fetus to a mass of cells that kept shrinking and shrinking until there was only one, her form gave a shudder before reverting into an egg and shedding half its DNA, ready to be fertilized at any moment, just waiting for the mood to strike Madison and Kurt.
The egg’s DNA shifted until it was half of Madison’s and she cleared her throat, shaking her head. Now a thirty year old woman who showed no signs of pregnancy out on a movie date with her husband Kurt.
Her hand moved to his and they held onto one another with smiles on their faces, turning to face each other and exchanging a small kiss at the same time as the leads in the film.
“I love you,” Kurt smiled.
“I love you too,” Madison replied with her own smile broadening. “Perhaps we should continue this date at home.”
“Perhaps we shall,” Kurt flirted back while reaching up and toying with his wife’s hair. She giggled in response and gave him one last kiss before returning her attention back to the screen.
