"It's your turn, Ryan," Dina said with another wink and a flip of her tail.
Just as she finished, she yelped as the ground dropped several feet under her, leaving her in a deep hole. Just as suddenly, water rushed in from seemingly nowhere, and she now had a pool to swim in.
The board displayed the explanation: "Adjusting environment to match the player's form. All adjustments take place at the end of the current player's turn."
Dina dived under the water, then quickly swam up and did a dolphin-like backflip, landing back in the water. "This is great! Someone should come join me!"
"Uh, we should try to finish the game," said Ryan as he grabbed the dice. "Not that the offer isn't tempting," he added under his breath. He rolled an eight, picked a random direction, and moved.
"A snake surpises you and attacks! Roll nine or more to dodge," announced the board. "Uh oh," he said when the dice came up with a five.
He felt something wet on his ankle, looked down, and saw that he was bleeding. "The snake is a medusa asp. Your speed will be reduced each turn for three turns, then you will be immobile."
"Great, my foot feels numb," he complained. Taking off his shoe to massage it, but it appeared gray and felt cold and hard. It had turned to stone!
