By the time afternoon comes around and you head back to the clinic, your hand doesn’t look better. Your thumb has almost shrank all the way back into the cast and it isn’t even the worst part. The rest of your fingers have darkened to the came color as your nails and Chase’s hooves as well as having lost any appearance of what they’re supposed to be. It’s a dark, hard, roundish lump that sticks out of the cast.
You find Chase and Jonathan in the clinic’s waiting room. After you let the nurse know you want the cast off, your and sit with them. None of you say a word to each other, though. Too nervous. Even Jonathan has lost his angry mood and looks as scared as you do.
It’s not long before you’re called back. Chase follows you back while pushing Jonathan with him. The nurse is already in the room prepping the materials and gets to work on your arm cast while promising to work on Jonathan as soon as you’re done.
Chase winks at you from behind her back as he takes a position in the doorway.
Soon your cast is off and you’re not paying attention to either him or Jonathan but examining the arm, rather foreleg that came out. By then the hoof that had been your hand is fully formed. Rich, brown fur covers the rest of your arm where the cast was. It feels oddly long and bent too, but you recognize it as right for a donkey.
“Finally free!” Jonathan shouts, breaking your attention from your arm. Then his cries turn angry, “Damn fuckers! Look what you did to me. What are you thinking doing this to people.”
“I’m sorry you’re not happy with you experience, sir.” the nurse says in a patronizing tone that says she’s anything but, “Though take comfort in the fact that you are perfectly healthy.”
“I’m half donkey, damnit. That’s not perfectly healthy.”
“The donkey and human parts are individually healthy, and the mixing will correct itself in time.” she says, “Now, unless you want another cast or some other service we provide, I have other patients.”
She turns to leave and Jonathan tries to stand to chase her. But he falls forward and lands on his hands and hooves, “Fuck. I can’t stand up!”
The nurse smirks but it quickly vanishes when she realizes Chase is standing in her way.
“Change us back.” he orders, “You turned us into freaks, now fix us.”
The nurse cackles, “Don’t blame me. If I didn’t give you casts then something else on this island would have started your transformations. This place calls all the bad people and gives them what they deserve. Don’t blame me.” With that, she slips past a stunned Chase leaving you three in fearful silence.
