Welcome, the sign says.
"Welcome to the game that will change your life, or not?" The aging clerk with a greying beard that reaches to the tip of his toes says. "This store is filled with artifacts both strange and mundane, safe and dangerous. These things I have collected over the years have wreaked chaos in human society over the centuries. And out of them, this is my favorite."
On the palm of his hand is a deck of cards, intricate in its ebony black surface and ornate golden markings. The clerk shuffled the cards in a myriad of ways. He flicked them, sliced them, and he even made them float in the air and arranged themselves in a neat orderly deck.
"These cards hold a certain 'mutatio' in them. Change - as humans call the word these days. Play a game with these cards, and your physical and mental attributes are placed on the bet as dictated by fate. Win a round and you grab one an attribute on the pot. Lose, and earn the chance of saying goodbye to the flesh and mind you hold dear. Win the game, and you can steal whatever attribute you want from the players. The game is simple but the price outweighs the chaos it creates." The clerk cackled in the dusty store as thunder clapped outside. "And look!"
The deck of cards, neatly kept in a cardboard box, disappeared in a splash of sparkles.
"The cards wait for no one, and I for one, share the same sentiments. Follow me to my crystal ball and see whatever discord it will sow."
