You are overwhelmed for a split second as your new memories are added to your head. Knowledge of this world, how everything works, even things like who you are flood into your mind. You are a 17 year old, human kid named Erik. This world is very much like the Isekai worlds you remember reading from your pervious life. There is magic, swords, monsters to slay and whatnot.
According to your new memories, this world works in a rather special way. When a person becomes 3 years old, they undergo their first Awakening, gaining access to their basic stats and skills, but no magic. From then until they reach 10 years old, they are going to be leveling up their base stats and acquire a few non-combative skills such as a production skill like Carpentry or Blacksmithing, or a general skill like Appraisal, and/or even a skill that has a rather specific circumstance for its usage, like resistance skills.
Then on their 10th birthday, they undergo their second Awakening, where they gain access to the physical combat skills and are given a weapon class by the world. While they can use other weapons, using the type of weapon they are classed as will be the only way the individual can grow stronger, as all of their combat skills will be tied to fighting while using that weapon class. Shields do not count as a weapon by the world either, so using one if you have for example the sword weapon class, is perfectly fine as long as one hand has a type of sword in it. Daggers are a completely separate weapon class from swords too.
And finally, on their 18th birthday, the individual gets their actual role, and access to magic skills. This is the final Awakening, and works a bit differently too. The person is able to request a focus on what kind of role they get by asking the world for it specifically. So if someone really wanted to be an archer role, they could beg the world to make them so. And, if the world does, regardless of what weapon class they had received 8 years ago, that class will change to align with their final role.
However, if no specific role is asked for, or the world doesn't grant your wish, then a recorded role collection book will appear in front of the person, and the first page they open to will set their official role. There are many role books know in the world, ranging from production role books, woodsman role books, aquatic role books, magic role books, and a few unique ones where a special twist is imposed on an already existing role, getting one of these is very rare of course.
Tomorrow is your 18th birthday. And your current weapon class is the Rope/Chain class. This class is for any weapon which has either a chain or a rope, with the one exception being bows. So while you cant use a bow, using things like morning stars, threads, or whips is perfectly fine. This class is also commonly associated with using traps and other mechanisms as the use of a rope or chain in those is normal and counts as using your weapon class.
You head back to where your new memories are telling you is your current living quarters, which happens to be at an inn in the nearby town. You spend the rest of the day getting situated with your new identity. The next morning you wake up suddenly when a heavy book falls down onto your stomach. After recovering from being startled awake and catching your breath, you realize this is your designated role book, and your future role is inside of it somewhere. You do not open it right away and instead read the title of the book in order to get a hint as to what kind of role you will be getting. One thing is very obvious though, this isn't a normal role book, it is a unique one for certain. You know this because the name of the book is....
