The vet, a studious looking female St. Bernard, examined Emily, who was surprisingly cooperative. "She seems perfectly normal at first glance," she remarked. "Typical behavior for her breed."
"Her eyes just glazed over....and she froze....then suddenly she was back to normal. It happened twice now that I've seen."
"It could be neurological, I suppose...I could run some tests."
"I need to make sure there is nothing wrong with her," Brutus insisted.
"I understand....if there is something to find...we'll find it."
She resumed her external examination, checking Emily's innocent looking eyes and seeing no signs of anything wrong.
As she did, Emily suddenly had another memory. A different light in her eyes....the light of a small black box...like the one Brutus looked at all the time. She could see her paws, pressing it.
