Samantha Harkin took a moment to admire her handy work. The 31-year-old just finished renovating her own new home. During this process, she learned how strong she is both physically and mentally. She had learned how to stand up to and intimate rowdy contractors and handy men. She also got a little fitter from some of the renovation work she had to do herself. This was a big step for Samantha as she is the first in her family to leave the state of California. She left the golden coast for middle America due the federal government setting up a goal to reduce population in certain major cities and get more good paying jobs into other parts of the country that other wise wouldn't get many jobs.
To do this, they would be revitalizing parts of certain cities to encourage people with good paying jobs (mainly remote workers) to go to these smaller cities and they would even subsidize costs for moving. Samantha would be one of these people, the senior level software engineer hated how busy San Francisco could be plus the outrageous rent and she wasn't much of a party person so the night life never appealed to her. Once she found out that her company was shifting the workforce to remote working for their go green policy, Samantha jumped at the opportunity. She has been frugal with her money plus with government rebates and real estate prices still being cheap, she found her forever home in Zionville, Missouri. The smaller city was getting a huge push and was on the way back up to being thriving again. It was perfect, low crime, nice people, and less busy atmosphere. Samantha looked through various houses when she stopped at something that just screamed buy me. It was an old fashioned gothic mansion from the 1960's and while it would need some major repairs Samantha had more than enough to fix it. She wondered why it was the cheapest though, even with the renovation costs it should be pricier than the other houses given the square footage and lot of land it sits on.
As it turns out it was a stigmatized property, apparently the previous owner of the house Zachary Winton was brutally murdered in his house and his ghost haunts the place. When Samantha checked out the house nothing seemed odd and she even had a priest exercise the entire house just to make sure. Now she has a perfectly revived mansion to live in all by herself. She went outside to tend to her garden that she was making when she was digging her shovel hit something.... a metal object a metal lock box.
