Covering the IAC

added by makutamon 2 years ago O

Animalia Ambassadoria had divided into several groups to do coverage of the various events at the IAC, since they had been "reassigned" to several other colonies. Fortunately, with school/college out, the original members were able to pick up the slack at Lyre/Animalia.

---

Probably what was the biggest news was from Heiya Island. The discovery of the old coins had caused quite a stir, both in Japan, China, and the US. Of course, the debate over how the resulting money would be divided was becoming "part" of the story, partly due to how the Chinese Ambassador was acting. Fortunately, another Ambassador (with a "cooler" head) would be arriving to help with the negotiations.

---

Sometimes Animalia Ambassadoria coverage caught something that had not been intended to covered. Miles' coverage of Miss Juliet's mansion was exhibit A of this. During his coverage, his camera, supposedly, caught an image of a Frenchwoman's ghost on camera, but he didn't really see it since that wasn't what he was focused on. There had been those who used it as proof that ghosts didn't exist, but there were also those who claimed that the "ghost" had been added later.

---

Another thing that was going on was firework sales, since the Fourth of July was coming up (although Heiya Island had several holidays of their own, both from Japan and China). This did result in a few funny things that were, in a way, to be expected.

"How does one guy end up with second degree burns on his butt?!" said one nurse as said guy was wheeled into Lyre Hospital emergency room.

"Guys have been known to stick things like bottle rockets into their-" said her coworker.

"Rhetorical question." said the first, all too aware of the fact.

---

Meanwhile, a small scale protest was going on at the Meat Market, though this was well expected. Either Feminist Rights or Religious Lefts would protest there to show their objections to what the Meat Market was doing, but there were things that either caused the protest to fall apart, or get the Lyre Police involved.

In this case, the Protest was caused by Feminist Rights, but they came undone by their own hands, so to speak. One was carrying a picket sign that read 'All men are pigs.' while the one right next to her carried a sign that read 'Women are equal to men.'

"Oh! Self-burn! Those are rare!" called out a guy nearby who had spotted it and took the opportunity for some low-key heckling. This had unintentionally caused the protest to end after realizing what he meant. Afterward, the guy who ended the protest was shown enjoying a show at the Meat Market, and basking in his achievement at administering instant karma.

---

What was probably the biggest thing was the beginning of the official IAC Games tournament. The Round Robin matches had concluded, and the official tournament brackets had been established. While the Olympic "comparison" wouldn't be taking place until later, it was the most anticipated event, and it was considered (unofficially) a "good" side-effect of the Pandemic.
