Diane and Naomi were working in the comic store on one of the absolute slowest days of the summer they could remember.
"Ugh, hardly anyone has even come in here." Naomi said as she put her head in her hands.
"Yeah, the only other person in here is that woman in the hat and sunglasses." Diane said as she scrolled through her phone.
"What woman?" Naomi asked looking towards the back to see a woman wearing a jacket, sunglasses, hat, and obviously trying to hide her face from the two young girls.
"I'll go see if she needs any help." Naomi said as she walked over to help the woman.
"Uh... excuse me ma'am? Do you need help finding anything?" Naomi asked.
"N...No...No thank you." The woman replied trying to hide her voice.
"You sound kind of familiar, have we met before?" Naomi asked as she tried to remove the graphic novel from the woman's face, but the woman tugged back trying not to let Naomi see her face before they fell back onto the floor.
"I'm so sorry....mom?!" Naomi asked in shock seeing Reiko Tozawa there wearing clothes that looked like they belonged on a college student rather than a middle age woman.
"Hi, honey." Reiko replied waving to her adopted daughter.
"Mom, what....what in the world are you doing here?" Naomi asked.
"Just looking for comics...for you." Reiko said trying to hand her a graphic novel.
"Mom, I can buy my own comics. Why are you really here?" Naomi questioned as Diane now came over as well.
"Well....oh, hell I can't hide it in anymore. You already know I'm bisexual, right?" Diane and Naomi both nodded.
"So after I came out and you two started dating more with all your talk of superheroes, I kind of got into them. The men sure, but especially the women. You name them and I'm crushing on them madly, She-Hulk, Black Widow, Zatanna. Oh, boy do I love Zatanna, with that hat, the bow tie, the fishnet stockings...." Reiko rambled on.
"MOM!" Naomi shouted snapping Reiko out of her fantasy.
"My point being I'm kind of experiencing that side of me that I didn't get a chance to when I was young." Reiko said as she recomposed herself.
"Well mom, it's nice to know there's not just one geek in the family anymore." Naomi said hugging her mom.
"Now, if you're not going to buy anything, maybe just leave so you don't embarrass us any further?" Naomi suggested.
Reiko was just about to go out of the store when she stopped to ask them one more question.
"One last thing, I was going to convince your father to dress up as Batman for Halloween later this year. Maybe year maybe you two could dress up as Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, and I'll wear my Catwoman costume. Should I do the more comic book one or the Michelle Pfeiffer one?" Reiko asked.
"Mom, just leave." Naomi said shooing her mom out of the store.
Diane went back to scrolling on her phone.
"So your mom is into comic book women now, huh?" Diane said with a smirk as Naomi glared at her.
