While the woman is changing Annette’s diaper, you decide to try the remote on yourself. Curious as to what the REALITY option really does, you select it. The world spins around you. When things stop spinning, you have a stroller in front of you.
“Here, Jackie,” the woman says, handing Annette to you.
“Thanks, Liza,” you say instinctively. You buckle Annette into the stroller. “Shall we continue?”
“Of course!” Liza says. The two of you continue your walk through the park. Your eyes keep straying to your purse, in which the remote is hiding. As far as you know, you haven’t used it yet. Selecting REALITY for yourself made you believe you were always in your current situation.
Your old self would be horrified by what you’ve become: a stay-at-home mom who, despite having a one-year-old daughter, is in her third trimester of her next pregnancy. You wince slightly as your swollen ankles start to bug you again. Liza notices.
“Let’s sit down for a bit, okay?” she suggests. You nod and sit on a nearby bench, relieved. “I’ve got to use the bathroom, mind watching Johnny for a bit?”
