It was his Aunt Wilma. Not wanting to lose it, and partially due to the ring's enchantment, Alex slid the ring onto his right hand.
“Hello?” He said as he answered the phone.
“Hi Alex, its Aunt Wilma.” Wilma said on the other line.
“Hi Aunt Wilma. How are you doing?” He asked, anxious to see what she was calling about.
Wilma was his mother’s younger sister at 35 years old. She looked similar to Alex’s mom, but if he was being honest, was a total smoke show for her age. She was 5’6”, had curly brown hair like Alex’s mother, and a really pretty face. She had smaller breasts than his mother, but had an amazing ass. Alex couldn’t help himself glancing whenever she bent over at their house... To top it all off, she had an amazing personality; sweet, bubbly, and a little shy at times. Yet, with her looks, she was single, and it was a mystery how she had the same terrible luck dating as Alex.
“I’m doing good! Thanks for asking. Hope you’re okay as well!” There was a pause. “Listen, I was hoping you could help me out with something...”
“Um, sure, what’s up?” He said hesitantly.
“Well, I’m going out to dinner with my boss and his wife, and it’s going to look really funny if I show up with no date... And you know from our talks about dating that I don’t have anyone to ask.” She said, chuckling slightly. “I know you said your coach was single, and... I was kind of wondering if you’d maybe give him my number?”
“I mean, I guess I could. I’m pretty sure he’s still single, but I don’t know.”
“I don’t want to trouble you too much, but could you ask? It would really mean a lot.”
“Yeah, I could. It’s no problem!” He said. Then, he said something that he thought was an innocent joke, but the Ring would turn into truth. “How about I come with you? Think I could pass as your date?” Immediately after he said this, he felt a sense of vertigo, and he lost his vision for a brief moment.
He woke up in the middle of the bumper-to-bumper traffic on a highway in the driver’s seat of an SUV. He looked down and saw that he was wearing a gray suit with a white shirt and blue tie. An expensive-looking gold watch rested on his left wrist.
“Please Alex, tell me you won’t be late. This dinner means so much. Plus, my boss is anxious to meet a sports big-wig like yourself.” Wilma said as his phone call came through on Bluetooth.
“Wait, what?” He said, pausing as he heard his voice, which was much deeper than he remembers.
“The dinner tonight, babe!” Wilma said. “With my boss! The one I’ve been telling you about for weeks! You’ll be home in time for us to leave together right?” Alex was confused, but looked to his GPS and saw that the traffic would clear up in a few minutes, and he’d make it back home soon.
“Uh, yeah. I should be back...” He said.
“Great! I’ll see you when you get here! Love you!” Wilma said, hanging up the phone.
“Uh....” Alex said to himself. Then he pulled down the sun visor mirror and jumped back at hi reflection. It was his face, but he was significantly older, but still good looking (luckily). He had a wedding ring on his finger next to the ring he had found earlier, there was a briefcase on the passenger seat and a sports jacket in the backseat of the city’s football team. He thought hard as the Ring placed the new *truth* into his head. Alex was now 35 years old, and married to Wilma. He was the offensive coordinator for his city’s football team for ten years now, after playing quarterback for them. Although they wanted kids, Alex and Wilma had only met two years ago, and were married for a year, and Wilma couldn’t get pregnant at her age.
He tried to think how this was at all possible, and then he glanced down on his hand. The Ring... It had completely changed his entire world and stole eighteen years of his life in the blink of an eye... And now he had to be this person he didn’t know for dinner tonight...
