“Hey boss, could I level with you for a sec?” Lillie asks as you get into the car, “Couldn’t help but notice you fiddling with those safety glasses. Did you forget how they work again?”
“I... what?” you look at the skunk girl quizzically.
“I’m just saying,” Lillie shrugged, “that if you’re gonna skunk people then you should ought to know how to do it properly. I could look at the manual again for you while you drive.”
“Uhh... yeah,” you nod, “Sure, do that. Hey, where do you want to go for lunch? Fast food sound good?”
“You’re the boss here,” Lillie said, thumbing through the glasses’ manual, “but if you do want my input I would really like some Taco Bell. Hmm... Okay, so you know that dial on the glasses that only has three settings? That’s the ‘gender’ dial. You have a choice between boy, girl, and... what is this... foo... tah... futa? I guess that means both? Ah well, you’ll figure it out.”
“I’m sure I will,” you nod, “Anything about the other dials?”
“Let’s see,” the skunk girl read, “There’s a ‘thickness’ setting on the left front for how fat or whatever you want your skunk to be... Behind that one is ‘reality rewrite level’? What the shit? Okay it says here that you can adjust how reality itself changes when you skunk someone. You could’ve made it so I retained all of my human memories, which is kind of interesting... and scary. Last one seems to be a ‘loyalty’ setting. Huh. Well there you have it, boss. I guess when you skunked me you made me a lean girl who’s been your unendingly loyal indentured servant for a good long while. My memory goes back to the day I was born, but for all I know I could’ve just gotten skunked ten minutes ago. Weird, right? I probably shouldn’t think about it too hard. I kinda like being ordered around by a boss.”
“Do you now?” you raise an eyebrow at that comment, “That’s... that’s interesting... So that means you’ll do just about anything I ask?”
“Happily,” Lillie smiled.
“Right... that’s... not unsettling at all...”
“I mean, short of breaking the law anyway,” Lillie exclaimed, “I won’t kill anyone or steal anything if that’s what you’re worried about. Oh! There’s the Taco Bell.”
“Alright then,” you park your car, “I think I have a better idea of how this works. Ready to go inside?”
“You bet, boss,” Lillie smiled as she leapt out of the sedan, “I am starving! I’m gonna eat so many goddamn burritos!”
