“What was that?” The human bandit asked aloud to no one in particular. “Must have been the wind.”
But no sooner had the bandit finished his sentence did an arrow swoosh by, narrowly missing his head leaving a trail of wind in its wake. The bandit let lose a string of profanities before quickly drawing his bow. The driver cracked his whip sending his horses into a frenzy. The carriage raced down the dirt road as not one, not two, not three, but four horsemen emerged from the woods behind them.
Shrouded in cloaks black as the void, and riding equally dark beasts these riders seemed to made of darkness itself. Ty looked back hoping against hope that these attackers would liberate her only to be met with the cold red eyes of the wraiths. A shiver ran down her spine and she thought that perhaps it would be best to stay with the bandits.
A torrent of arrows cascaded down upon them as for miles the wraiths gave chase. It would only be a matter of time before the horses grew tired and the wraiths would overrun them. In the distance there was an old wooden bridge which twisted across a deep dark river. Ty knew that this would be her opportunity for her and Steph to escape. As the carriage drew closer, Ty kicked out with all her might. Her pawed feet slammed in the human bandits gut, causing him to stagger against the carriage railing and disrupted his shot.
The bandit let loose a cry of pain as a ghostly arrow pierced his shoulder. Blue mist leaked out from his wound as his skin turned a sickly pale and swirling black ink filled his eyes as the bandit began to transform. His frame collapsed in, shrinking down to just under five feet. Sharp fangs and long-sharp black talons grew out. Long silky white hair erupted from his head as large breasts grew out from his chest. His waist sucked in as his hips flared out giving him now obviously her a hourglass shape. Finally blue misty runes scattered all across her skin which sparkled and glowed in the moonlight. Sitting next to Ty and Steph, where once a human bandit now sat a horrifying combination of vampire and harpy. Ty would have found a bit of pleasure in seeing her captor reduced to a sexy woman like her if not for the terror this new girl possessed. She looked no older than seventeen or eighteen, but still Ty could not shake the feeling this girl possessed powerful magic. For a brief moment their eyes met, and the black ink faded away to reveal beautiful and alluring red eyes which pierced through her sending a chill down her spine.
They had to act, if they were to escape they had to jump now. As if reading her mind the vampire/harpy lunged on top of the orc slashing and clawing at him with a ferocity they had never seen. Now was their chance. Standing on the edge of the carriage Ty and Steph steadied themselves for the jump, but before they took the dreaded leap Steph held out her hand. With their hands locked together the two friends plunged into the dark waters below.
