I tried to move but it was no use. I felt heavy, cold, somewhat low to the ground. What am I? Where’s my body? Why am I not in my mother’s body? But I couldn’t speak at all. I heard a car door open and close, and suddenly felt myself lock up. “His brain is all wired up now.” I heard the doctor say. I must be a fucking car...but how?
Two legs walked into my wide vision. “You’re awake, David. Your mother’s body didn’t make it after she was transferred to your old body. We had to find a new host for your brain.” He said while crouching to my height. He pulled back a curtain, revealing a large mirror. When I looked in the mirror, I saw my new body, a Silver Cadillac Escalade, a Luxury SUV, like the ones rich people in Hollywood Hills drive.
“We bought vehicles for testing purposes, we didn’t think that you would actually come through. This was the most intact body we could have put you in, currently. We have given your family an extra $100,000 for putting you through all this, and unlimited maintenance, so that you’ll run as long as possible.” He walked back and forth, continuing to explain. “We chose an SUV since your family is big, it’s all terrain, and it even comes with some cool technology features, like displays in the back to keep your brother Brad entertained.”
I wanted to cry but I couldn’t. I saw another two legs approach me, my mom in my old male body. She put a hand on my now metallic hood.
“This must seem like kind of a shock sweetie, but look on the bright side, you are a luxury SUV after all, not some rusty beater. It could have been worse. I promise to keep you functional and clean.” She said in my old voice. “The doctor says I have to take you for a drive, so you get used to your new purpose.” She was secretly excited to drive me, because she never owned anything “luxury” before. A click of the fob and she got into the drivers seat.
The ignition was sparked, and I revved to life. The doctor opened the delivery door and I was driven outside for the first time. Driving fast felt like exercise, but I was up to the challenge. I had a full tank so I could travel quite far.
“You’ll be a great use to the family, David, in fact, we were looking for a new car recently. Hmm... Since I’m David now, I’ll just call you... Cad.” She smiled, pressing the gas down on the highway.
