As Bets approached the hedges, she almost collided with Diane. "Sorry, Di!" she almost squaked due to her nerves.
"That's okay," the other girl nodded, obviously a million miles away in her thoughts. "Where's the rest of our friends?"
As on cue, April popped next to them! "Girls!" she gasped from a prolonged run. "You won't believe what has happened to me this morning!"
"Maybe we will," Diane said thoughtfully before Bets could. "Spill."
...April had slept somewhat poorly last night: she constantly awoke at every little squeak and creak of the floorboards, and constantly imagined seeing misshapen shadows around her room. Only when the night began to end and the sun slightly began to rise did the poor girl find some relief.
And then her mother came into the room. "Wake-up, sleepyhead!" she shook April by the shoulder.
"Why don't you go back to bed instead?" April snapped-back.
"Okay!" and April's mother (May) walked-off.
April was a bit sleepy herself, so what actually happen didn't register at first. But when it did...
"Whoa! Did my mother just go back to bed?" she asked herself incredulously. "Freaky!" Then she paused, thinking. It was about 7:15 in the morning and she was awake in the house, pretty much alone, until her mother woke-up...
...April often fancied herself a mischievous slash independant girl. So she decided to watch the morning showsrather than have breakfast - something that she hadn't really done before. As she proceeded to do that, she was grew dissappointed. Nothing interesting was on, but one of the president's speeches. April hated political speeches, but since the rest of the TV stuff was even more boring, so she settled on it all the same. "People of my country," she said with surprising savageness, "I am an idiot and so are you! Now go and fuck yourselves!"
And then the president's speech came on. "People of my country," the president said in his usual high and mighty tone of voice, "I am an idiot and so are you! Now go and fuck yourselves!"
April almost chocked on her tea. Judging by the fact that the speech wasn't terminated right away, she wasn't the only one...
After her brain finally registered that it was static on the TV and not just tea, April slumped. The whole thing didn't take more than ten minutes - fifteen at most, but it was time to start preparing herself for school all the same. Still, April smiled in a very odd way, after she was through, this school ride will be anything but boring.
