The Zoo had started up a unique new program. Instead of only transforming people against their will, they've started to reach out through a few channels looking for people that would be willing to become animals. They hadn't expected much to come out of it, but between people who needed somewhere to live for cheap, or were interested in actually living as animals. Usually, unlike the people that didn't have a choice they were allowed to turn back eventually if they wanted and were compensated with money, though very few actually decided to go back on their choice.
You had heard about this through a friend. From what you heard he was now a Hawk in the zoo's birds of prey exhibit. He seemed happy enough in his new life, and you had made the decision to join the program yourself. You had no real life and you were having money issues, this was at least something that could help with that.
You headed into the office of the Volunteer center. The only person there other than the receptionist was a young woman with black hair who was dressed in a T-shirt and jeans. She was reading a pamphlet and glanced up at you and gave you a slight nod as you headed over to the receptionist.
"Are you here to volunteer for the transformation process?" The woman from behind the desk asked as she looked up at you.
"Yes, I am," you answer as you look a little nervous. "Sorry, I'm still kind of unsure about this."
"Don't worry, you're going to be just fine, and as long as you're" the receptionist answered with a smile. She took out a clipboard with paperwork on it and handed it to you. "Just fill this out and bring it back to me. Once you're done and everything is ready you'll be taken into the back."
"Okay, thank you," you said as you took the paperwork and walked back to one of the chairs and sat down next to the brunette woman. You started filling out the paperwork, it was fairly normal medical stuff like you'd have filled out at any doctor's office. It wasn't until the final page that you stopped to think as it was where the animal choices were listed.
"What do you think of this?" The woman next to you said, making you jump a little.
"Huh? I mean, I'm mostly just here because I can't get a job," you admitted. "What about you?"
"I've wanted this since I was a little girl," she replied with a soft smile. "I'm going to be a Horse, I've always loved them and ever since I was a little girl I had this fantasy about becoming one. I know it's silly but I never really grew out of it, and well here I am."
"Well, I'm glad you know what you want to be, I'm still deciding," you admitted as you looked over the list again. "There's just so many different choices."
"Well, I think you should pick whatever animal you love most," the woman answered with a smile. She was about to say more when the receptionist called her name. "Well, whatever you choose I hope you're happy. Maybe I'll see you in the Stables?"
She got up and walked to the receptionist who led her into the back. You went back to thinking about the list for a long moment before finally selecting one and getting up. Besides it wasn't like you were going to be like this for the rest of your life, right? You gave it to the receptionist when she came back and a few minutes later you were led back into a sterile room with a door leading outside.
"Alright, remove your clothing and sit on the table," the receptionist said. "One of our scientists will be with you as soon as she's done with our new mare."
"Alright," you said as the receptionist headed out. You stripped off your clothes and took a seat, it felt weird for a moment to sit there naked, but it wasn't like you were going to be wearing clothes for a while anyway. You took a deep breath as you thought about how your life was about to change. You were going to be an animal in a zoo, it was a weird thought, but you had made it this far. For now, all you could do was wait.
The door opened and a woman dressed in a lab coat came in. She was holding a syringe and gave you a soft smile.
"Alright, you're our latest volunteer huh?" She said looking you over and checking the paperwork. "Everything seems to be in order. So, are you certain this is your choice?"
"Yes, I'm sure I want to be a..."
