Nazaric arrived back at her realm, in her anthro form, to recharge for a while after spending hours with her fellow gods. Despite being with them for thousands of years, sometimes she hated her fellow dragon gods, as they could be so stubborn. Most of them still want revenge for what the other dragon gods did to the dragon race.
You see, several thousands of years ago, dragons used to be mighty four-legged giants. Naturally, they became highly egotistical, and they viewed that every other race should bend to their will. Even the dragon gods felt like the other racial gods should bend to their will. So the mortal dragons and their gods hatched a plan to make every race their slave. With every race their slave, the dragon gods would have a tremendous amount of power over the other gods. Due to various rules about interfering with the mortal plane, no other racial god could determine what the dragon gods did. If they were found out, they could be punished.
The dragons were on the verge of winning, but their involvement was found out. Some of the racial gods tell a fundamental god what happened. Most of the gods wanted to show the dragon gods that they weren't as weak as the dragons think they were. So, they combined all of their power into a permanent cure that affected every dragon in the world. With the permission of a fundamental god, they were successful. The nature of the curse was that dragons were to turn what they hated the most, anthropomorphic.
Ever since then, the dragon-gods had a deep hatred for the other racial gods. Only after a long reflection, Nazaric dropped her grudge against the other gods. She could only convince two of her fellow gods to drop their grudge, Arznoc, the dragon god of merchants, and Lezana, the dragon goddess of beauty.
There are two types of gods in the world, fundamental and radical. Fundamental gods represent an aspect of reality that would exist without sapient creatures, and they don't gain any power from followers. The gods are much more powerful than racial gods. However, they spend most of their time and energy making sure what they represent is maintained. They also act as a neutral party between the racial gods. Racial gods, on the other hand, get their power from their followers. Most of the time, they are aspects of societies, like marriage or war. Rarely can they be a god of a fundamental force. While not essential to reality, they do help make it more stable and more robust.
Anyway, back to the plot; The goddess entered the house part of her realm. She saw Ornicol covered in a light coat of soot. "What happened?" the goddess asked.
"Tylin is trying to learn magic," He said as he dusted himself off. "Do dragons learn magic that young?" Despite being a dragon for 100 years, he was still learning much about dragon society.
"No, dragons don't learn to cast magic when we are in our twilight years. Even then, we barely learn any spells. As we view it as something that only "lesser" beings do." She said with some malaise. She never got why dragons thought that way. Magic was a powerful tool; she was amazed at what the mages of the other races could do. She could only imagine what a dragon mage could do. Even her fellow dragon gods don't view anymore highly than the mortals. So, both of these aspects combined made sure that there wasn't any dragon god of magic. "I'll take care of her; you go and clean yourself." He nodded and walked to clean himself off. When she entered her daughter's room, a bolt of magic whizzed by her head. She saw that Tylin's room had impact marks all over the room. In the middle was soot-covered Tylin, with a book of beginner spells. She didn't remember getting a spellbook for her, so the goddess assumed that her husband got it for Tylin.
"Sorry," Tylin said.
"It's OK sweetie, why do you want to learn magic?"
"Well, when I was still human, I played a lot of fantasy games, and I always played a magic user. I loved the fact that someone so intelligent could be so powerful. So, when I was able to read again, I wanted to cast magic."
"Magic is not that easy to learn. You will need to have a lot of patience. It can be dangerous. However, it can be gratifying if you are willing to learn. So, are you still willing to learn?"
Tylin thought for a while before making her decision. "I am."
