Driving back home to the apartment was pretty simple. Traffic was mostly smooth without many cars on the road, but as soon as Chris got too comfortable some random idiot turned into Chris' lane without checking and in order to not get in a crash Chris had to swerve out of the way hastily. Chris could hear the wheels screeching on the asphalt along with a *thunk*. The swerve being so abrupt had unnerved Steph a bit as the black box went out of her arms and the button hit the car door. Chris honked at the car that almost got them into an accident, and then heard a really young girl crying in the backseat.
"Steph are you alright?!?" Looking in the back instead of there being a little girl of maybe 5 or 6 there instead was a baby girl in a pink shirt and a diaper. Steph tried responding but what came out was a bit of baby babble that almost sounded like words. It was just a short trip later and thankfully the black box didn't rattle around and hit the button again. Finding a quick parking spot Chris unbuckled Steph and took her out of her baby seat thankful that he didn't smell any shit or urine. He glared at the black box for a second and said "Im going to push you, don't worry. Just let me get everything in the apartment first please." Steph still understood english even if she couldn't speak it so Chris told Steph as he got into his apartment "Listen... It's superstition but that box may just be sentient and punishing us for not pushing it. It may be possible that if we press it a few times now and then things will get better." Steph didn't look that much more calm, but was calm enough to let herself be set down on some pillows on the couch. Chris than ran down to the car again and grabbed the balloons that used to be Steph's assets and the black box hadn't moved... Well of course it didn't move it was an inanimate object, but considering all the coincidences going on Chris wasn't putting against divine intervention to screw him over. However the universe did sense Chris' intention to push the button, and the black box didn't feel the need to screw with him for now.
Chris got inside his apartment, put the black box on his coffee table in front of the couch, and held Steph in his lap. The balloons were drifting and Chris was going to lean in to push the button. Steph was dreading what would happen, but there was nothing she could do so she was just going to accept that maybe she'd become a fetus if the trend was going to continue. Chris leaned in as he inched to the black box, nervous but determined to push the button, his fingers were now touching the top of the black box, and now all he had to do was put a bit of pressure on the button and he would complete the pact he had made with the piece of plastic.
