When Leah caught sight of Gina's cousin, Alice, for the first time in her life she was glad to see the woman. Ever since they were kids, the two had never seen eye to eye, much to Gina's discomfort. Alice never missed a chance to make a degrading comment. So if Leah could simply make it seem like saying she looked like a kid would annoy her, Alice would leap at the opportunity.
Striding across the deck, Leah forced a smile and said, "Good Afternoon Alice, it's so good to see you!"
The friendly approach clearly caught Alice off guard, but it only took a moment for the woman to dispel her look of confusion, "Oh hi Leah. You realize Gina's not around at the moment? We don't have to pretend to get along right now."
Alice already seemed to be in a sour mood. Perfect.
"I'm just trying to be pleasant. We're both adults right? We don't have to keep trading barbs like we're little kids. Do we?" Leah hoped she wasn't sounding too persuasive.
Thankfully, Alice didn't seem to have plans to bury the hatchet today, "Says the one in the bright pink, one piece swimsuit. Did you or your mommy pick that one out?"
Feigning discomfort, Leah responded, "Come on this swimsuit doesn't make me look that childish does it?"
Not missing a beat after sensing she hit a sore spot, Alice responded with a grin, "Of course it does. Dressed like that you look like a..."
