The second Luke hit the remote, they felt their body freeze in position, not even toppling over. Luke had looked down, so they both knew that he had hit the think button, two rows above and right sided to the intended human button.
“Oh SHIT” they both thought simultaneously, thinking they would soon think about things like wolves. Which would have been similar to Luke´s speech that morning. That was only half right, though.
It wasn´t an instant change, but that´s why they were frozen in place. While the speech button had exchanged words in Luke´s speech for fitting wolf terms, the think button worked deeper. They wouldn´t just think terms as wolves.
Luke slowly was pushed away inside his mind, as everything that was linked to the human Luke was repressed into a dark corner of his mind. Regardless if that were his feelings, his character or his memories and knowledge, everything somewhat vanished from him, leaving Luke like an empty shell of a wolf. That emptiness then was filled with knowledge and behavior fitting his form, which was a wolf. Soon, where seconds before was one half of a latex wolf, a human called Luke, was now a real wolf without a name.
Kevin was in a much worse situation, or maybe it was merciful. While Luke was repressed in the wolf´s head of their shared costume, Kevin was consumed by it. He didn´t even realize it, as everything that made him the human Kevin simply vanished. In the same time Luke was pushed away into an empty shell, Kevin was simply erased out of him.
Would Luke now turn back, Kevin would be simply gone. Maybe part of Luke´s body would look like Kevin did, but that was all. Not that that would happen in the near future. When the wolf´s mind had finished being created, the paralysis ceased to hold the wolf´s body, and as movement returned, his paw pressed down harder. His other claws on the left paw, nearly simultaneously hit the buttons right next to the think button, meaning he hit both the speech and the exchange button.
A light tingle went through the wolf´s throat, switching his theoretically still human speech into fitting wolf noises. But that tingle went unnoticed, as the latex receded form its body, leaving behind a normal looking wolf. Everything, from the paws and the fur up to the muzzle and the tail turned out as real, with the latex forming a small, collar-like ring around his neck.
And as his weight shifted from latex-covered human to real wolf, the pressure on the remote increased too much, making it break right in the middle, destroying the only way for at least Luke to turn back.
The wolf stood still for a second before he let out a loud howl, to alert his not existing pack. Then, realizing it wasn´t in the open woods, but trapped inside a building, started to run. Lucky for him that the garden door was open, escaping outside.
