Wayne parked his car at the side of the large barn. He didn't see any other vehicles. He was also more than a little pleased that the unfriendly farm employee was not there to welcome him.
He smiled and reached for Matt's Chronivac. He wasn't quite sure how the swap would work. Would Matt be returned to their home, or would he simply resume being Matt there at the farm? That latter option could be embarrassing. Wayne imagined the device wouldn't bother restoring such niceties as clothing. He chuckled aloud. "Maybe he should have planned ahead," he thought.
He knew Matt had "enjoyed" his experience because the device has transmitted a message "Condition filled" informing him that the "subject" (Matt) had successfully ejaculated. A second message had followed "Manual restoration overrides condition."
Wayne smiled again. Matt had had a few hours now to worry after the failure of his anticipated restoration. He'd probably be a bit upset, but if Wayne knew Matt like he thought he did, he was probably enjoying the delicious uncertainty and fear.
He'd not deliberately made Matt wait hours. He had taken out the Chronivac as soon as he got the message and gave the OK to the "manual restore" only to face a unwelcome setback.
"Device must be within six meters of subject for manual restore."
Wayne groaned. He'd have to drive out to the farm and face another unfriendly reception in order to restore Matt. Unfortunately, he couldn't leave immediately. He needed to finish a work project, but once that was done a few hours later, he was on his way.
Now, as he walked across the barnyard, Wayne saw his boyfriend licking a pink salt block. The alpha jack, pleased at his unfettered access to the addictive salt, mostly ignored the man.
"Matt, I'm here," he said as he stepped next to the donkey.
The jack raised its head and regarded the man with dull, dark eyes.
Wayne stroked the donkey's groomed mane. "I'll bet you're happy to see me."
The donkey huffed. The salt had made the animal thirsty, so it turned away from the man and ambled toward a watering trough.
"Come back!" Wayne followed. "Stand still!"
The donkey stopped in front of the trough and began to drink. Wayne admitted that Matt was doing a good job pretending to be a dumb beast, but it was time to end his little adventure. He activated the restoration and heard the device begin to hum softly as he waited expectantly.
Nothing happened. The donkey kept guzzling down water.
He started to try again when a hand roughly grabbed him and spun him around.
"You! What are you doing skulking about again?"
Startled, Wayne dropped the device on the ground. He started to reach for it, but the farmhand pulled him to his feet. "I asked you a question."
Wayne saw that he better come up with a good story, but at that moment, the alpha jack took a step back from the trough and landed its hind right hoof squarely on top of the Chronivac, producing a loud crunch as he damaged the device's casing.
"You need to get the hell off this property." The hand dragged Wayne toward his parked car.
"Wait!" Wayne objected. "I need to..."
The donkey had repositioned itself before releasing a caustic yellow stream atop the damaged device. Wayne heard the splashing, but rising over the sound of the torrent of piss came a sizzling that resulted in a burst of sparks before the blinking LED lights darkened.
"Matt!" Wayne screamed. "What are you doing?"
The hand shoved Wayne toward his car. "Go! Or I'll let the sheriff handle this."
