Obelisk of Twin Desires

added 2 years ago O

In a clearing devoid of both plant life and snow, stood an obelisk, a little taller than the average man and about as thick as a tree trunk, made from polished green stone. It glowed with a strange green light that emanated a strange warmth that both comforted and disturbed you. Already you were unnerved by this strange structure, why had not even a single flake of snow land upon the clearing where it stood? Was its otherworldly warmth melting it all alway?

You take a step forward, leaving the shelter of the forest and stepping into the clearing. Nothing seemed to change as you stepped closer, so steeling your will, you bring another paw forward. And then another, and another. You aren't quite sure when, but as you made your way closer, you blinked, and where there was once a mere glowing obelisk, was the same obelisk but now at it's base, a small pile of treasures piled around it. Golden coins, jewelry, chalices, gemstones, even several pieces of armor like polished metal chest plates, swords, and other enigmatic artifacts laid there, all in perfect condition around the strange pillar.

Seeing this sudden unexplainable change, your fur stands on its ends as you leap back in fear of the unknown.

You landed back at the edge of the clearing, the treasures still there, undisturbed by you or the harsh environment. Where had they come from? As you pondered this mystery. A sudden desire... no two separate and conflicting desires had suddenly filled you. Two desires, one to give an offering to the mysterious obelisk, and another to take.

You had never been much of a greedy person, nor the kind to give offerings to shrines or other places of worship. So where had these feelings come from. They were not ones that came from yourself that was for sure. Something, either the obelisk or another source, but either way these two desires were growing stronger, almost painfully sure. Your breathing started to become ragged and the warmth in your body seemed to dim. It took all you had to even continue standing. The strength and endurance of your animal body seemed irrelevant to the affliction plaguing you. You had to choose now. To give or take, lest you be driven into madness.
