As Brad ran he began to change more. Soon lost his balance falling to all fours as his hands became true paws & he became quadrupedal. It didn't slow his running down a bit. By the time Brad reached the lake he was nothing more than a large otter. Oliver landed nearby as Brad jumped in the lake & began swimming around. Hours passed and Brad came out of the lake. He looked at the large raven sleeping near the lake. He went to speak to Oliver but couldn't remember how to. Or why he even tried. Soon he couldn't remember Oliver's name. Or his name. Or what a name even was. The otter that was Brad laid down next to the raven that was Oliver & went to sleep. Oliver's parents later found the 2 & woke them. The otter & raven looked at the 2 familiar humans puzzled as to what they wanted. Oliver's parents tried speaking to Oliver & Brad but the 2 animals failed to understand a word the humans were saying. The otter & raven didn't know English anymore; or any human language. The 2 animals quickly lost interest in the 2 humans & went off together. Oliver's mom said to his dad "I don't think they understood a word we said." His dad said "They don't remember who we are. I doubt the remember who they are. Or even remember they were human once. They aren't Oliver & Brad anymore. They are just an otter & a raven now." They both felt sad. Their son was gone.
They were right on all accounts. Oliver & Brad didn't remember who the 2 humans were. The humans were familiar to the 2 but they didn't know why; and they really didn't cared. They didn't know what the humans were saying; or even cared. They didn't remember ever being human. They didn't remember their own names or even what names even were. They were just a large otter & a large raven now.
Oliver's parents barely saw the 2 animals that use to be Oliver & Brad after that day. The otter & the raven had a total disinterest in the humans; wanting nothing to do with them. Though the 2 humans were sad they lost their son they could at least be happy that he appeared happy with his otter friend. And the otter & raven remained friends for the rest of their lives.
